James Beach is ideally located a block away from the beach in Venice, California and has a patio and an indoor area. Both are vibrant, youthful, smart and delicious. The menu is short but with scrumptious appetizers, entrees and desserts. The famous fish tacos is a specialty but so are many of the other dishes. The staff is attentive and the atmosphere is vibrant. A real fun place to be.

my teenage kids and I had a red eye flight out of l.a. which left us with plenty of time for dinner before heading to the airport. I hadn't been to venice in years and thought it would be a nice stop. (totally should have gone to Santa Monica!). but what a find James beach was!! not knowing where we'd dine, we found parking for $20. ugh. and then headed toward the beach a block away. I saw James beach tucked away on a side street and thought it looked lovely. but we headed to the main strip. omg do the freaks come out at night! we walked down to iron beach - I've always found that open air gym fascinating! but my teens were getting scared. it was dusk and it was staring to feel like we were in the movie "lost boys". so ew exited the strip and made a beeline to James beach. we were seated right away in the lovely "outdoor" seating area. the bathroom was abysmal. but the food was great and the ambience was just perfection. we had a lovely dinner and I definitely want to go back. ordered: calamari, salad with crab and avocado and ceviche. some of the best calamari I've had...

James Beach is a fun place to eat. Small indoor/outdoor restaurant just off the main strip in Venice beach. The Venice beach walkway is 1 1/2 blocks away. This place definitely has the Venice beach layed back feel. Overall food is very good and service is equally good. All items on the menu are fresh and organic and offers a nice variety to choose from (wife got the fish tacos and loved them). Parking is limited and expense so be prepared. Only negative thing is if you eat in the outdoor patio area, the flys can be very annoying during dinner.

Our hotel recommended James Beach for dinner. It was wonderful. The menu offers a great variety. We shared the mac & cheese and the jumbo shrimp tacos. Both were very fresh and delicious! Our waiter was attentive but not overly so. We would definitely go back!

Just a little bit out of the main strip is this nice restaurant hidden. Great fresh food! It was nice to eat some vitamins for a change after a month of travelling and eating too many burgers!
