Fantastic food. The ahi tuna + foie grois appetizer is out of this world. Had the sirloin for my main course and that was excellent as well. Companions had pork (2 ways), cod and fried chicken, all very good.

The San Luis Obispo cab was great with the sirloin.

Service was simply outstanding. Our server was gracious and attentive, even offering a very effective suggestion for my wife's sore throat (mint tea with honey).

Some other interesting choices on this street as well, but if you're in LA, give Joe's a chance.

"Quality' dining is rather thin on the ground on the Venice Beach Boardwalk, so we opted to walk a few blocks to Joe's.

However, as we came across an advertisement for the restaurant in a free LA tourist magazine, we were a little concerned that it would be a tourist trap. It couldn't have been farther from the truth!

The restaurant didn't look very exciting from the outside but was elegant inside and had a nice rear patio along with waterfall. Staff were attentive and friendly.

The restaurant was quite full at lunch time, mainly locals but with a smattering of tourists.

The food was very good. Both main courses were excellent: shrimp on a bed of saffron rice and braised lamb shank with asparagus risotto. The deserts were 'average' but large portions.

We would certainly go back there again.
