I am not usually a fan of molé but this restaurant has changed my view. They provide a selection that can satisfy this skeptic.

You don't have to drive south of the border to get beautifully presented, thoughtful, tasty Mexican food. Cute place. Nice staff. Easy parking. One of Southern California's best!

Moles la Tia serves up dishes with many varieties of "moles" or sauces. The most famous is Mole Poblano.
During my visit to Moles la Tia, I started with two appetizers, the first one being, Botana Mestiza. They looked like little turnovers cut in half and stuffed with shredded squash and melted cheese. It came with a side of guacamole. The second appetizer we ordered was the Botana Ranchera which comes with little sopes, which look like thick tortillas. The sopes were topped with cochinita pibil and escabechete morada.
Both of these appetizers were delicious. However, we made the mistake of ordering those two appetizers because we weren't as hungry when our main dish arrived. So, next time I’ll order two appetizers if my party is 3 or more. Anyways, I had the Oaxacan Ancestran Black Mole on a grilled chicken breast. They came with a side-order of warm home-made tortillas. The mole was very good, but a little spicy. Overall my experience with Moles la Tia was good. The only drawback is that they don't serve alcohol. On a final note, there is parking behind Moles La Tia, the parking entrance is immediately west of their building.

Really, real mexican breakfast !
If you have never successfully ventured beyond anglo-saxon pancakes, ham and eggs or french toast and Starbucks style coffee for breakfast, this is your chance to be adventurous and splurge gastronomically in East L.A !
Say "Buenos Dias" then ask for "chilaquiles" and a cup of "cafe de olla".

Chilaquiles are crispy tortilla morsels dressed skimpily with crumbled cheese or covered with mole sauce or pepian (chocolate and/or peanut based traditional prehispanic sauces) with cream on the side.
Coupled with a "quesadilla" (folded handmade thick corn tortilla with melted cheese) and a perfectly charbroiled flank steak or a delicately spiced broiled tender chicken breast.
Yes, all in one large plate!!!

The perfumed coffee is simmered in cinnamon sticks and sweetened with "piloncillo" (unrefined dark brown sugar).
The generous portion will allow you to have energy for the next 6 hours. Served until noon. Hurry.
