“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2009

We stayed at the Hollywood hills hotel for just 1 night on our way back from French Polynesia. Initially picked it for its location as it was near Hollywood Boulevard and the attractions. The check in was easy and our room was ready straight away. We had a hire car so going up the hill was no problem or was parking as you had an alloted car parking space.
The room was big and although a little dated it was clean with decent air con and a kitchenette particularly useful if you are on flydrive or a longer stay in LA. There was a large balcony with great views over LA and hollywood hills. Just near to our room was a roof swimming pool that has recently been renovated and had we had more time would have been a lovely to relax- very quiet and peaceful.
There was a complimentary continental breakfast served in the magic castle hotel at the bottom of the hill- all you really need- pastries, cereal, biscuits, coffee, tea. You could also use the pool at the magic castle hotel.
The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful in pointing out restaurants, attractions. If you wanted a lift up or down the hill anytime all you had to do was call and they would pick you up or drop you off- especially useful in the evening when going out for dinner.
The hotel is about a 5 min walk from the chinese theatre and walk of fame as well as a large modern shopping centre with good restaurants inside.
We thought this hotel was good value for LA and in an ideal locaion- Universal studios -5 mins as well as warners brothers studio. It is about a 10 mins drive to Beverly Hills and Rodeo drive- definately worth a drive through.

We stayed in L.A for a couple of days and we choose this hotel after great reviews and we were not disapointed.
The staff was sooo helpful, the room was amazing, we had a great view of the Hollywood sign and L.A.
The hotel is a walking distance from all the main hollywood attraction.
The room was big and comfy and we had a balconny so in the morning we can relax and look at L.A waking up.
The staff was very helpful of all the question we had about L.A. and the surrounding and even recommanded us to different great restaurant.
Breakfast was a great healthy Californian morning meal, with fruits and nice pastry from a local baker.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone and we would go back there anytime.
We loved L.A. and wished we could've stayed longer.

After an unfortunate need to move from a different hotel, Hollywood Hills saved my trip. I will start with the one negative of the place. The location is up a hill and if you do not pay for parking you have to catch a shuttle up the hill. Otherwise this place is fantastic.

First off the staff are so friendly and helpful. There is always apple cider and cookies in the lobby along with free dvd's to rent. I have never met such a helpful staff. After a horrid experience at the previous hotel these people were a godsend.

The rooms were clean, although the building is aged and the facilities do look a little old I have no complaints about the room, the room was spacious and the linens clean and so was the bathroom. Even though we did not pay for a city view our room had a partial view of LA. And although my one negative is that it sits on top of a hill, one major positive is that it sits on top of a hill and you can see Los Angeles lit up at night. Beautiful!

Without hesitation I would stay here again. There is a wide range of variability when it comes to service in Los Angeles so trust my review and others about this place. You absolutely will not regret it.

Stayed only one night at the Castle?..thank goodness..I had done much research to find a close/safe place to Hollywood Blvd./Walk of Fame - the castle seemed the best..when we arrived they said they had overbooked but they had a room in the "old" part..up the hill for FREE..so $200 a night to FREE..hmmm..the hallway had no doors..just a dirt hallway..safe?..the door had no Dead Bolt..safe?..the Gas stove was right by the door so if there ever as a fire..you would have to jump off the balcony..safe?( We were actually vacationing in Vegas at a beautiful time share with our friends) they got an old pullout couch to sleep on..great big silver fish bugs in the bathroom..needless to say I left all the lights on, the TV on, my clothers ON..and one eye open....to get down the hill to sightsee..we had to call the desk, we had to wait quite awhile until they found a van to send up..because we left so early the next morn, we drove to the Santa Monica Pier to see the ocean, the only plus..should I have offered more money?..the parking lot was full..so they must have really overbooked...

My wife and I stayed at Hollywood Hills Hotel for one night. We chose it for the location and the city view studio. The view was nice but not spectacular enough to outweigh the inconveniences.

Pluses: great view but not breathtaking. We got the same view eating dinner at Yamashiro restaurant (same owner as HHH and Magic Castle Hotel) at the crest of the hill. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Adam seemed to be everywhere and to keep things right, and the lady who helped him was similarly helpful. Good sized bathroom but shower valve a little sticky. There were a stove, pots, pans, microwave, and toaster for those who plan long stays. Good sized bathroom. Good towels, had tissue, but no note paper or pen. $1 charge for phone, but we were not charged. Good breakfast of orange juice, delicious croissants, cereal, yoghurt, hard boiled egg. Don't miss the croissants. Free wireless is available in lobby of Magic Castle Hotel down below. They also will print from the Internet gratis. Free pick up and drop off between your room and Magic Castle.

minuses: We can't blame a hotel for having boorish guests, but thin walls means you stay up late with stay-up-late guests. At 1 a.m. on one side of our room, there was a lady with a frequent annoying laugh. On the other side, there was constant reshuffling of furniture--maybe on the deck because rooms are carpeted. No wireless in rooms, but wireless throughout Magic Castle Hotel, below.

  • Liked — The nice view and friendly staff
  • Disliked — Lack of wi-fi in room, noisy guests

Firstly you check into the Magic Castle Hotel. The HHH is up a road behind the hotel and they provide a free shuttle. We were staying in room 401 and we had a city view and also a hill view. The only pity was we didn't have a balcony so couldn't sit out and enjoy it - there was a screen over our window.

The studio apartment is fantastic - nice big comfy bed, sitting area and seperate kitchen and bathroom. We had a problem with ants around the bath tub in but we didn't say anything - we used just put boiling water on them ourselves. We went to the pool one day for a few hours - you could not use the pool though as it wasn't clean and there was a layer of dirt or scum on the water. We enjoyed relaxing on the loungers however. If you want to use the pool you can use the Magic Castle hotel which is heated.

The hotel is very near Hollywood Boulevard - Grauman Chinese Theater and the Walk of Fame.

We found that you really do need a car in LA - the distances are just so big and I don't think public transport is that great.

I really liked the Grove Shopping Centre and the Farmers Market. We also went to the beverly Centre for some more shopping. Went to see a The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in CBS studios, went to Santa Monica beach, Universal Studios which was only about 10 min drive away, Six Flags and also to an LA Lakers game in the Staples Centre which I would highly recommend. We also did a Starline tour of the Stars Homes.

LA is a crazy place - not what I expected but I really enjoyed it there.

  • Liked — Great location and lovely apartment
  • Disliked — It was expensive(€160 per night) and we were charged €10 for parking per day for 6 days stay

We didn't have a car when we went to Hollywood (we wanted to see if it was possible to survive without one) and, as a result of that, the staff was always willing to get us from our suite. They're all very hospitable, friendly and accommodating. I would go back! It's cheaper than the Magic Castle Hotel and you STILL could book at the Club/Restaurant (which is normally very hard to get into). Also, our suite was spacious, affordable (especially for Hollywood!) and clean. :-) What more could you ask for?
