“Will definitely stay here again next time we're in LA”
Reviewed August 18, 2011

The Hollywood Hills Hotel was an excellent and affordable place to stay in West Hollywood. It is affiliated with the Magic Castle Hotel (shares a front desk and breakfast area), but the rooms are located up a hill and offer a significant amount of privacy for a hotel. The staff will drive you up if you don't want to walk, as well as shuttle you to nearby locations. The pool is beautiful (beats the ones we've lounged by on the sunset strip) and the room we stayed in had a great view of LA. An added perk - munchies (granola bars, cheeze-its, oreos) and drinks (iced tea, soda, etc) were all free - all we had to do was ask the front desk! The front desk was extremely friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. We intended to stay just one night but decided to stay an additional night after scoring free tickets to the baseball game. The room was clean, large, and had a great little balcony we drank coffee on in the morning. The only problem we had with the room was the first night; while the AC worked, we felt heat blasting through the wall vent. I waited until the morning to call about it and they sent a maintenance man to take care of it right away.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and loved it. The welcome we received when we checked in was very warm and friendly and made us feel at home straight away.

Only a ten minute walk from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood Boulevard, the hotel was a quiet and secluded retreat after a long day exploring LA. We booked a 'city view' room which had a fantastic panaramic view of the Hollywood hills, Hollywood itself and the skyscrapers of Downtown LA in the distance.

Some aspects of the room itself were maybe a little dated if you are bothered about that sort of thing, but everywhere was clean, and the size of the room, the location, and the staff, who could not do enough for us, more than made up for this. Sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine, taking in that amazing view, we could almost kid ourselves we were a resident of Hollywood, rather than a guest in a hotel!!

Very nice stay at the Hollywood Hills Hotel, only downside was that the room had no wifi but the website states internet available. Cabled internet available in room and free wifi at the Magic Castle Hotel where buffet breakfast and reception is held.

Location was brilliant as less than a 10 minute walk to the Kodak Theatre and the Hollywood Highland metro station. Metro train was good value for money and only two stops down from universal studios.

You must check in at the Magic Castle Hotel as there is no such service where the accommodation is based which is up a steep hill . Hotel looked dated from the outside but the rooms where large and clean and came with a small kitchen. Parking provided at a reasonable fee of $10 a day. Quiet at night to sleep and enjoyed the use of the pool which was good size and came with equipment to play with.

There is a 24 hour shuttle to and from the magic castle hotel at the bottom of the hill but near lunch time it may be unavailable as the staff go out to buy breakfast for the following day.

The staff where very helpful and can book tickets for places like universal studios where they had a discount offer. Unlimited supply of can drinks and snacks from reception which saved us from buying as much when out.

At first sight we were not very happy with our suite at the Hollywood Hills. It was old, not very clean and the direct environment of the suites is a bit odd. In fact these are normal rental appartments that are leased by the Magic Castle Hotel for the season. Guests can use the more than excellent services of the Magic Castle Hotel, but in the Hollywood Hills itself there are no services whatsoever. You have to get down to the Magic Castle Hotel for breakfast, internet, reception etc. and it is a walk down (or up!) a steep hill. We were advised by the management not to walk this route alone in the dark. The hotelshuttle brought us up the hill during te evening. There is however a nice swimmingpool and the rooms are very large, the view is amazing and the prices for a large suite in downtown Hollywood is fine. Combined with the superservice of Magic Castle Hotel we did have a nice stay.

I love finding hidden gems! HHH is situated on the hill between The Magic Castle and Yamashiro in a spot close enough to fully experience all that Hollywood has to offer without having to listen to it all day and night. The pool is lovely, quiet and clean (bonus pagoda!) and the room made my friends and I feel like we had a little apartment in the hills. Comfy beds, great balcony (that view!) and a kitchen with a fridge, stove and stocked with dinnerware and utensils really made us feel right at home. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful to boot and offered a shuttle to get you up and down the hill if you wanted to walk into Hollywood. Loved it! I'll be back soon! A sister hotel of the Magic Castle? Really. There is a good view and the free snacks are the same deal that one gets at the Magic Castle and the staff - same as the Magic Castle are wonderful. And that's where it stops.

Yes, it is less expensive and the price point has been set based on it's short comings. However --- if you are use to fine hotels like the Magic Castle - you will not be happy at the Hollywood Hills. Don't do it.

I'm a loyal and gung-ho fan of the HHH and usually stay here when in Hollywood. You can't beat the view, the bed, the location... But I must admit that the mildew stains (I'm sure it isn't actual mildew, but the stains left over from scrubbing it so hard forever), the constant smell of gas in the kitchen (that they say isn't a gas leak), the flaking/chipping paint on the balcony and certain areas... well, it's beginning to irritate me. I mean, over the years I've been staying there, they've had plenty of time to do some minor renovations (really, just minor ones). Replace a curtain if it's torn, or re-caulk the tiles in the bathroom. Things like that. But, nope. Nothing's really changed. It always looks the same. A little worn, but with a pretty view. Kind of like Hollywood.
