Baramee Thai Restaurant on 6th Street in San Pedro is definitely worth visiting. Baramee, locally owned and run by a friendly set of girls, provides some really fine Thai food.
Baramee is small, about 18 tables, including several on the outside patio. The chef, unlike many at Asian restaurants in SoCal, is actually a Thai. The food is authentic in taste, flavor and presentation.
Baramee is not particularly crowded at night, similar to most restaurants in San Pedro's 6th Street District. Lunch is quite crowded and there are nice lunch specials on the menu.
If you are, like me, a curry fan, you will find Baramee to be a special treat. Red Curry, with a Tofu protein base, is really outstanding. For starters we have had the Spring Roll (we are always on a Vegan or Vegetarian diet) which was served at a correct temperature and with the exact degree of crispness.
If you are a fan of Drunken Noodles, Baramee provides some of the best we have tasted. Again, the Glass Noodles were at a perfect point of cooking when presented.
Baramee is able to vary the spiciness of their dishes, from bland to fiery. Talk to the wait staff about what degree of spicy is right for you. The whole staff appear to be dedicated to be sure you get a great dining experience.
Baramee is worth the visit. Nice owners, very attentive servers, and best of all, outstanding Thai food.
For those who are "concerned" about San Pedro in the evening, don't be. You will find many good restaurants in a safe environment. The old days are over, and Baramee is an example of the change in the San Pedro dining scene.
