“good place, close to hollywood but a little dirty”
Reviewed June 21, 2010

the place had a good offer compared to other hotels and its definitely worth staying in Hollywood instead of LA Downtown. The Hotel has some good rooms and some rooms closer to the street whcih can be a little noisy. There is a swimming pool but its so small that they should replace it with a nice green garden instead. Rooms were a little dirty but ok for the price.

We spent one night at the Hollywood Downtowner, my mother and I, it's a small hotel, but serves its purpose. They have open garages that you can use to park your car in. It's a short drive away from everything. The room was old and could use some new paint, but for what youre paying and how close it is to everything it was fine. I saw no bugs, and had no problem sleeping through the night. The little kitchen area with a microwave and fridge is nice, we would have used it if we stayed longer. All in all it was a great little place for cheap. And the management was really great. They are available at all hours. We needed their help at 230 am, they had no problem helping us and were very nice. I would definitely recommend staying here for anyone on a budget.
And the morning breakfast at the Transylvania was AMAZING. We thought that was a very neat feature.

stayed here with friends for the 2nd time this year. super helpful staff, family run, clean, comfortable. the location is not that dodgy. 10 minute walk to the walk of stars, 2 minutes to the subway. we'll be back next year! highly recommended.

I was really scared about what we would find, however we are really pleased with the hotel, owners, service in relation with the price!
It´s obvious that for this price you´ll not stay at a star ranked hotel, but it´s clean, safe and comfortable for the price. Our room had microwave and fridge what was very convenient; the breakfast was included in a coffee shop next door (buffet breakfast, not just toast and burned coffee, it was very good); everyone was very nice and helpful about info, and even we were able to check in earlier because our room was ready.
I have nothing to complaint about. No luxury, but we already knew that. I would defintely stay there again if we got back to LA.

My friend and I stayed here for 10 nights and we are both very satisfied. The hotel is clean, the room looks like it has been recently renovated. You have all you need: clean sheets and towels every day, a fridge, a microwave, a TV, a coffeemaker and warm water in the shower. The inside with the pool is very cosy with a lot of nice plants.
The staff is also very helpful!

We definitely don't agree with the negative reviews here.

The hotel is located very strategically next to a metro station only a couple of stations from Hollywood Vine and Highland. If you don't have a car or plan to rent one, this is a very good place to stay at. We recommend you using the metro.. It is cheep (5 dollar for a day pass) and fast and good for the environment.

Couldn't spend more than 1 night in that motel, had to check out and move to another hotel in WeHo.
The room was tired, dusty and smelly, with stains on carpet, bugs in the bathroom, old firniture, torn sheets and towels_ should i say more?
but the worst thing was the AC which was noisy as airplane. twas completly impossible to sleep!
My friends stayed in the renovated room, which was a bit more cozy, but still very poor! Better spend 50 dollars more and stay in a nicer place.

Stayed here for a couple of nights after arriving LA en route to Palm Desert and Las Vegas. The room we were allocated (30) unfortunately faced the front and was extremely noisy as it faces directly onto Hollywood Boulevard which is an extremely busy road with taffic 24 hours a day. On the plus side, our room was large, relatively clean with an up to date bathroom with large shower. We had a huge comfy bed and a fridge and microwave too. We didn't feel nervous walking in the area at night and walked around 20 minutes to a really nice restaurant (Poubelle) one evening and ate at a cheap Thai on the other (within two minutes walk) which only took cash and didn't serve alcohol. Breakfast was served in the "Transylvania Restaurant" a couple of doors away and was copious and of good quality. The owner was a Hungarian who had been living in Transylvania and was quite chatty. Overall, the area is a bit rundown (with closed and shut down stores etc) but we didn't spot any hooligans hanging around etc. If arriving at LAX, please note that the taxi fare is horrendous! We paid $65! Our hotel owner gave us good advice about catching metro and getting the shuttle bus from Grand Station which was a far cheaper option and really easy to do. We didn't particularly enjoy LA as we found it rather dirty and run down but others might see it differently. Nevertheless, we had good hospitality at the Downtowner and I would recommend it as a budget stop over but don't expect frills.
