We picked this hotel because we were told it was very conveniently located near Universal Studio's. That was the only nice thing about it. We arrived at this hotel at 8:00 pm. The outside entrance had 3 signs that said "Hilton, Tilt, Clarion?? It has an identity crisis. We weren't even sure if we were entering the hotel correctly, because the entrance looks like an exit from the parking area, unmarked and plain. The lobby looked nothing like the pictures and it was very dark and dim and furniture piled up everywhere. I had read in previous reviews that it was under construction, but that was from last August, couldn't believe it was still going on 7 months later. There was an attendant sitting behind a computer, couldn't even see him until I walked right up to the desk. Check in went OK. We were told that the whole second floor was completely closed and under construction, which was true, because the whole third floor (the only other floor) smelled of paint and drywall dust.
We then tried to venture out to the street to try to find a restaurant to grab something to eat. Right outside of the entrance to the hotel, there was an overturned shopping cart, with garbage piled all around it. There were two people running down the street and ducked behind a fence at the street corner and hid there, while watching back down the street. I grabbed my son and ran across the street and ran into the pizza restaurant right beside the Starbucks. It was pretty run down, but made great pizza. By this time the people across the street had ran off, so we ran back to the room.
The room itself was very dim and dark, but was clean. There was no room vault. The next morning, we made our way down to the lobby again to try and see if there was actually a complimentary continental breakfast and was surprised to see all the piled up furniture from the night before, were set up table and chairs for breakfast. They had a limited selection of food available, but it did the trick. I asked the attendant where the pool was (that was advertised on the website) and she told me the Health Department had closed it down?? I also asked her if they were actually a Hilton, Tilt or Clarion Hotel and she replied that they were transitioning over to a Tilt Hotel, but not officially yet. OK, I'm thinking Hilton, Tilt and Clarion wouldn't want to see ANY of their names attached to this place, but surprise, all three were!! So she gave us instructions how to walk over to Universal Studio's, which I was a little leary about, seeing as the area seemed to be very run down. In the light of day however, it didn't look that bad, it took us about 20 minutes. Overall, we were really disappointed in this place. Maybe once they are finished their reno's it will be a better experience. Staying somewhere else next time.
