We attended a funeral and this affordable hotel is two miles from the Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.

It was our first time at a Clarion Inn. We booked one night in a 3 kings bed suite using the AAA rate. Two adjoining rooms and one bathroom.

The location is near a lot of tourist spots like Universal Studios. We made the short drive to Universal. We didn't bother walking it because we knew we'd be tired walking back to the hotel with three kids under age 11.

We checked in at 6pm. Many parking spots available at that time. The room was clean. Ample bath towels. The view was of the alley, but we didn't hear any freeway traffic noise. The room has a mini-fridge and microwave. The suite is roomy for 4 adults and 3 children. I would have liked another bathroom. If we stayed more than one night, I would have opt for the suite with 2 bathrooms.

Wifi worked well. The breakfast consisted of basic items like bagels, eggs, bread, muffins, yogurt, milk and fruit. It's enough to start the day.

I had only one issue. When we got in the room, the adjoining room was locked. We called the front desk twice. Both times we were told that a housekeeper will unlock the door. After an hour we got in the room, we located a housekeeper who then unlocked the other room. I didn't bother making a complaint, but looking back, I should have.

We'll likely return to this hotel since it's near Universal and more affordable than the hotels closest to Universal. Plus, the CI suites cost less than small standard rooms at the Hilton/Sheraton.

Had an event to attend at Universal Studios. Hotel is just outside of Universal Studios, so you are not paying the big bucks that you would be paying inside the park. Most of parking is under the hotel, it is an older hotel and they had some remodeling/renovations going on, but lobby was cute, staff was friendly, and room was clean & comfortable. It is so close to the freeway, but could not hear or smell it in the hotel. There is a traffic signal at exit, so very easy to get out, close to Universal Studios, and breakfast included!

Anyone who says this in not a close walk to Universal is seriously lazy. It's a healthy 20 min uphill walk that our family of 6 did with no problem. The walk back home is always easier and we chatted happily about the day's events.
We have stayed before and requested the same room as last year. We had the family suite (room 321) which consists of a king bed in room 1, a very clean bathroom (with small spa bath), a wet bar with fridge, microwave, flat screen TV with cupboard/drawers and a lounge chair + generous ottoman. The furnishings are dated, but comfortable and the firm bed is divine. Pillows are a little on the small side and too soft, but that seems to be a constant problem we have found wherever we go in LA. Only thing missing is a small safe, which would have been appreciated for passports and travel documents etc. There is great TV reception and heaps of channels.
The second room is the same size, has an identical bathroom, (2) queen beds, armchair, flat screen and cupboard with drawers. This room has no external access door to the hallway, but the common door can be locked from the inside. Husband and I would have preferred if our bed was in this room, for obvious reasons, but we understand why we couldn't lock it from our side, so we left it at that.
Showers have multiple stream options and white fluffy towels and toiletries are replenished daily. Housekeeping was efficient and polite. We tipped between $4-6 a day, not sure if this was enough but as Aussies, we don't have a clue on this type of practice as it's not done in Oz as a general rule. Air conditioning was quiet enough and I honestly can't fault the accommodations. The guest laundry is excellent value at $1 per load and was very convenient for me before we flew home to Australia.
The lobby has undergone a substantial renovation and is currently still awaiting many finishing touches, so the photos on their website are way out of date. It used to be quite bright and homey, but they've gone for dark and funky. The courtesy bathrooms are lovely, but the little lobby is just way too dark for our taste. It's hard to see and the finishing is rather hurried and lacking the detail I would have expected for a major upgrade. Reception is ever friendly and polite and check in is easy. Didn't use the pool, but on a really hot day it would have sufficed.
Breakfast is ok if you're not expecting a grand buffet. We just chose cereal, yoghurt and egg most mornings. We took fruit and muffins back to our rooms and they were delicious. I agree with a previous poster about the use by date of the yoghurts. Husband ate a bad one and (ahem)paid the ultimate price for the rest of his day.
All in all, we would definitely stay here again for our Universal Studios leg. It's a nice hotel and decent people run it. People expecting anything other than courtesy and comfort for this price is just kidding yourself.

Room Tip: Room 321 is the Family Suite and it is great for 6 people. Overlooks the road, but very quiet.

The hotel have limited parking space. The room we stayed in was well maintain but it seem dark. It's hard to connect to their internet. The good part is it's near a freeway entrance and walking distance to Universal Hollywood. The hotel offers full breakfast, not the CP kind. Starbucks is right across the street and a gas station in the same block as the hotel. If you hate driving LA traffic, this is maybe the one. Expect to pay for the convenience.

We chose this hotel because it was the only reasonably priced hotel with 2 Queen beds within walking distance of Universal Studios. Other than that, it's just an OK hotel with plenty of problems: ants in the bathroom, very small pillows, lobby under construction without any bathrooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor on the back side, facing away from the street, for a quiet room.

We spent 5 days at this hotel this week while we visited Hollywood, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers Studios and other surrounding attractions. All in all, an enjoyable experience.

On the plus side, The hotel is decent and quiet, and conveniently located to visit the surrounding attractions. Rooms are ok and clean, the staff friendly and helpful. We had a 2 queen room, and it wasn't cramped. The complimentary breakfast is the standard Choice Hotels selection changing daily from various forms of eggs, sausage or bacon, biscuits and gravy, bagles, muffins, cereal and a waffle machine. There is a convienience store across the street, and an In-N-Out Burger place a few blocks down Cahuenga Blvd. Although the hotel parking spaces appeared limited, we had no problems getting one even when we came back late.

Although conveniently located, it is a roadside hotel just off the highway so there not much scenery in the surrounding blocks. If you are looking for a hotel with a pool for the kids, this is not for you as their "pool" is no bigger than a hot tub. The lobby still is under construction, making the breakfast area a bit cramped. If there was one improvement I could suggest, it would be to upgrade the pillows. Although plentiful, the pillows were small, about the size of throw pillows and not that much more comfortable.
