We've stayed many places and this place is just average. It was a decent and clean room with all the things you need. The view was an alley but I wasn't there for a view. I just needed a place to rest my head before heading back to universal studios. The beds were queen size but not the most comfortable. We did have a fridge and microwave in the room and there was a coffee maker. It did have the big unit ac at the window which I usually hate but at least this one had a control for continuous fan on. That helped drown out the noise of the hotel fan going on and off during the night. The breakfast in the morning was adequate. I took there microwaved omelette thing and scraped off the "cheese" and put it in a bagel with some bacon and had a sandwich. My kids had waffles and my husband said the bisquits with gravy were good (I thought it was ok). They had orange juice, milk, water, and apple juice to drink. You could also make hot chocolate and coffee. There were also yogurts, cereal, bananas, and various breads you could eat. The space to eat was tiny and the room was so dark. It really needs a lighter color and more lighting! We didn't walk to universal but I could see how you could. It took only about 5 minutes to drive. I think it would have been about a 15 minute walk.

I stayed here with my two teenagers for two nights while we visited Universal Studios. There was still a little remodeling going on in the lobby on July 17 and 18, when we stayed there, but it did not cause us any problems. Breakfast was inside (not in parking lot, as mentioned before) and was decent, though a little crowded. We had no problems with parking, but maybe that was because we stayed mid-week and the hotel was not full. We did not have to deal with valet parking as there was plenty of space to park ourselves. Universal Studios was a quick 10- 15 minute walk away, and it was nice to come and go as needed when we got hot and tired at the park. We asked for an extra roll away bed when we reserved the room, and they had it ready for us upon arrival. We asked for a refrigerator and microwave upon our arrival, and they brought it to us within 30 minutes. The front desk personal was helpful in giving directions on walking to Hollywood and Universal Studios. The hotel is located on a busy street with many offices (mostly entertainment industry), shops (some a little dubious...like a couple smoke shops) and restaurants, but overall the neighborhood off the main street is very nice. Highway 101 was near and visible from our window, but we could also see the wooded hills, and a tiny bit of Universal Studios, on the other side of the highway. Traffic noise did not bother us, though we left the fan on of our air conditioner all the time, which blocked out noise. The room was very clean, there was nice bedding and very comfortable beds. This is not a super fancy hotel, but was perfect for us!

The ONLY redeeming quality of this hotel is that it's the closest lodging (and a 10 minute walk) to Universal Studios. The lobby was under construction so there was no lobby. We had to check in via a movie theater type of window that was in the parking garage. Our room was small and dark. We had a view of a dirty brick wall and bars. We couldn't even see the sky.

Upon arrival our toilet was clogged with toilet paper. When we tried to flush it down, it overflowed all over the bathroom floor. Someone did come right away to unclog it and clean the mess. The walls were paper thin. We were kept up past 1am by the people next to us who had their TV on which shared the wall with the head of our beds. We could hear their conversations and kids laughing & carrying on. There was a free breakfast of scrambled (microwaved) eggs, waffles which were good, bagels, toast, muffins, cereal, fruit, yogurt, milk, and various juices. The breakfast tables were set up in the parking garage, not far from a wall of construction junk/materials. My daughter's milk in her carton was curdled. The carton felt warm when taken out of the fridge. My own carton also felt warm too, so I threw it away. We stayed here because the price of $134 was okay compared to other places, but in hindsight, I'd spend a little more for a nicer place.

We booked this hotel because it is just 5mins away from universal studios. At that time it was a holiday inn express. Simple but ok breakfast. Room was good. Air condition was kinda weird, but we survived ;)

We stayed for two nights during our girls' spring break in order to take them to Universal Studios. The hotel staff were very friendly and the desk service was quick. The hotel itself was very nice and clean. Our room was spacious enough for the four of us with two queen beds, a desk, a couple of chairs, dresser, nice LCD screen TV, and roomy bathroom. The beds were comfortable enough. In March the rooms were already getting a bit warm, but they have AC. The unit itself was rather noisy, especially when set on fan, but we ended up being thankful for that because it drowned out the noise of our extremely noisy neighbors (very thin walls) next to us and the family of kangaroos above (I recommend asking for a 3rd floor room). The bathrooms were very nice with the exception of the showers never staying a consistent temperature. The water went up and down from cold to too hot without us ever touching the handle.

There was a small pool, but we never used it. Most of the parking is under the hotel, but there is an outdoor area as well...for overflow I presume.

The continental breakfast was lovely. They served toast, bagels, muffins, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, and waffles every morning. They changed hot dishes slightly daily, but they usually included biscuits, gravy, some sort of egg (cheese omelet our first morning, scrambled the next) and a meat (bacon the first morning, sausage the next). They provided coffee, tea, various juices, and milk. There was also yogurt.

While it is within walking distance to Universal Studios, it's a bit of a hike, a good portion of it up hill. The walk took about 15 minutes each way. If you don't want to pay the $15 parking fee, you can hike it. The area the hotel is located in is okay, not scary but not great. There aren't a lot of eating places within walking distances except for at CityWalk which is at the entrance to Universal Studios (no fee to enter unless you're driving and then you need to pay the parking fee). We went over for dinner our first night and were pleased with the variety of fast food and sit down. I believe there were about 30 different eateries.

Room Tip: Ask for back of hotel, top floor. There is an elevator and staircase.

- No Hot Water. 3 nights. During any/each shower, at best, it would fluctuate between warm and barely warm to cool. One time it just turned completely cold. We told the front desk on the morning of day 2. Late on day 2 we came back, they said it was fixed. Yeah, right … not a chance.
- Parking. Limited. They have to double stack vehicles when they are full. That means leaving your keys with the front desk. Important note: If you are parking out front (not covered parking) … ALWAYS back into the parking spot, it makes existing possible.
- Proximity. Easy access to/from the freeway. Easy access to Universal Studios Hollywood, it is virtually right across the freeway. Probably within walking distance, but, if you’ve been in Universal all day on your feet, you probably aren’t going to be walking to and from.
- Room. We had 314. Top floor back side, view of an alley, but no freeway, busy street noise, it was quiet. Nothing spectacular about the room, just a normal hotel room. Not small, not big … just normal
- Breakfast. They had an Ok assortment of choices. 3 cereals, bagels and muffins, bananas and apples. The ‘hot’ options appeared to alternate each day … very plain omelette folded over American cheese, bacon and biscuits and gravy. Alternate day had very plain scrambled eggs, sausage patties and biscuits and gravy again. And a Waffle maker. Not bad, not great.
- Overall. If you are planning on going to Universal Studios Hollywood, this is a very good place to stay, very convenient. After all they should have the hot water fixed by then ... right?

Room Tip: Room 314 was on the backside with zero view, but zero noise.
