As other people have said in their reviews, the location of this accommodation is brilliant

Takes 5 minutes to drive to Universal Studios and about 15 minutes to get to Hollywood Boulevard with its walk of fame and Chinese Theatre

The complex itself is good, swimming pool with plenty of loungers, on site store, reception etc and we never found parking to be a problem

However, the accommodation is truly awful. We rented a 2 bed apartment for 6 nights, the apartment is a good size, each bedroom had its own bathroom and a separate lounge, good TV with loads of channels and catch up TV

This complex is obviously old and in desperate need of a complete overhaul. It is split into two halves, north and south, the south half is undergoing a complete overhaul meaning all the facilities except the convenience store are closed

We were allocated an apartment on the north side which was not effected by the works

The apartment we stayed in appeared clean when we entered but on closer inspection was dirty around the windows, sinks and was generally shabby.
As others have said the information pack includes warnings for asbestos and damp/mould, not very appealing

We got to our apartment and the following are the main points

As soon as we walked in there was a strong stink of damp/musty in the air, so much so when we went to the shops later on we bought some plug in air fresheners and fragranced candles, no one should have to do that

The apartment was insecure, the front door lock had seen better days, it locked but was so loose one decent shoulder barge and it would have opened

We were on the ground floor and we were not able to lock all the windows, I raised this with reception who sent over a maintenance man who then fitted new locks on the windows, I shouldn't have to ask for this, surely it should be standard

The carpets in the hallway leading to the apartment were disgusting, covered in stains, ripped and smelled

The apartment itself looked like it had been recently painted but the decorators have literally painted everything, work surfaces, drawers inside and out meaning when you put items in the cupboard they stuck to the paint

The terrace outside the lounge was surrounded by cigarette butts and empty cigarette packs, clearly no one is bothered about clearing up

This could be a great place so take my advice and stay away until the refurb is completed

We showed up at 630PM and were told that the room was still getting ready and needed 30 minutes more. We went shopping and came back at 730PM and were still told that it had to be signed off by a manager before they could release the key. I had to argue with the front desk to get the key. We were very tired after driving all day from San Francisco and really needed to cook dinner and rest so this was a terrible way to start our stay. Otherwise, the apartment was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. I hope management can get their act together.

Location is the only thing Oakwood at Toluca Hills has going for it. Although branded as a "hotel", these small apartments do not provide the ease and convenience of a hotel, nor basic customer service. You have to sign a lease, just like you are renting an apartment, and you are notified that prior to leaving you must remove all garbage, or you will be charged $25 per bag of garbage left in the room. The maid does not come every day. We had one roll of toilet paper in the apartment, which wasn't suffcient or replenished easily during our week-long stay. The elevator was broken two days out of four (we were on the third floor). The bathtub faucet dripped non-stop. The apartment furniture, fridge, cupboards, and bathroom showed excessive wear and tear. There is a lot of construction going on in the buildings, as they are trying to replace carpet throughout. In the meantime, it is so dusty that you feel like gagging while walking into and out of the buildings. Finally, access to the property is cumbersome because of its privacy gates. You are given a credit-card type key for getting into and out of the property, and then you have to navigate numerous very high speed bumps at regular intervals. My husband and I were not impressed by anything about this property. We do not recommend it.
