Olvera Street, where L.A. began, gives the tourist and resident a feel of being in Old Mexico. There are many lovely, original buildings with shops selling colorful handicrafts and items from Mexico. The open-air cafes where Mexican food is cooked before you are fun and easy on the budget. There are strolling guitarists and singers. Sometimes colorful, ethnic dance groups perform on the Plaza. The first fire station, first hotel and the first church are also on the Plaza. I love the atmosphere of Olvera Street...a mini-vacation even for Los Angelinos.
