Owner description: The oldest street in Los Angeles is fun to visit, especially during special events like the "Blessing of the Animals" or "Dia De Los Muertos" (Day of the Dead.)

I enjoy Olvera Street for the cultural experience. The food, the bands and celebrations. However, it is not like it use to be. The market stalls use to be owned by individuals with some different things at each place, now it seems to be all owned by one or two individuals with the same things everywhere. Many of the things to buy are not Mexican but Columbian, Equadorian, etc.
Last time I was there the miriachi band played one song and passed the hat, I took my change about $10 dollars and gave it to them which they dumped because they wanted bills. It was rude and disrespectful. I do not find it a dangerous area at all in the daytime and evenings when there are things going on,

Visited the street market with my wife. Good parking available. Surprising to find a small piece of Mexico in the middle of LA. Quainty spanish buildings and very friendly people selling authentic Mexican goods.
Must see when you are in LA, well worth one hour of your time.

Decent shopping and from what I hear excellent Mexican food is to be found here. I haven't been in a long time because i don't feel it tis worth the drive and feel it isn't really too safe a place to visit.

Aside from the normal fare of visiting Olvera Street in Los Angeles, there is the annual La Posada procession evenings at 7:30 for the two weeks leading up to Christmas Eve. There are numerous places to see here, though the parking is a bit pricey if you cannot find street parking. Check this out if you have the chance.

A little slice of Mexico in downtown Los Angeles. We enjoyed walking around and browsing all the Mexican handicrafts. A bit touristy and expensive chatchkis, but it was fun. Definitely talk a tour of the Alvila Adobe- it's free.
