The Gastronomy Tour was amazing! This tour was way more than just great food. The tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and constantly interested us with great cultural and historical stories about Little Tokyo. We tasted a wide range of excellent cuisine that I didn't even know existed in Little Tokyo. I've been back to three of those restaurants since then, and I plan to return to the others as well! The tour guides were very friendly, and made the tour very comfortable. Most of us on the tour even became friends and exchanged emails afterwards. It was a great experience and I recommend this tour to everyone, whether you're a visitor to Los Angeles or a frequent to Little Tokyo. I visited Little Tokyo pretty often before I went on this tour, but this tour introduced me to so much new food and culture. Tip: Come with an empty stomach and pace yourself. You will eat so much food on this tour!

The Gastronaut Tour was a lot of fun! Our tourguide, Brian, was pretty knowledgable about the area since he grew up there and even gave us a lesson on how to eat with chopsticks. He was funny and friendly from the beginning!

We started the tour at JANM where were given cool little Six Taste bags :). Then we started off -- first at Chado Tea Room, which was really cool. We got to try several different kinds of tea and smell a bunch of them (really putting our senses to use!) Then we went to Wakasaya, Spitz, Fugetsu-Do Sweet Shop, Mikawaya, and Mitsuru Cafe.

The last 4 were all sweets, which was maybe a bit much on the dessert end. We also didn't spend much time in any of them. The tour overall was really awesome and all the food was delicious, but timing could have been a bit better -- sometimes it felt rushed and we didn't have much time to browse/shop (but I think we started a little late). Also, the tour is supposed to include 7 stops, and we really only did 6 stops (did a quick walk through another place, but it was very, very brief). I would have also liked to hear from the shopowners more! We didn't get much of that.

Chado Tea Room and Spitz were by far my favorite -- yum! We got a lot of samples at each of those places, too. Another thing I loved was the lessons on Little Tokyo's culture and history. We made a stop at a garden, did a walk through the cultural center, etc.

Overall, I'd recommend this tour -- you'll get your money's worth if you eat, eat, eat! There's also always the cheapter $25 tour that's probably just as good :).

I recently went on a food tour with Sixtaste and found it thoroughly enjoyable! This company was started by two young USC grads who clearly have a passion for food, people, and quality. The tour I went on was their Gastronaut Little Tokyo tour where we stopped at 7 different restaurants/tea rooms/bakeries and tried different samples of Japanese eateries. There was a lot of interesting historical information told throughout the 3.5 walking tour, and trust me, time flies! You absolutely get stuffed by the end of the tour, but in a good way, and they allow us to take food/samples we didn't finish back home. Even as a native SoCal girl, and having been in Little Tokyo a few times before, this food tour still allowed me to explore anew a great amount of the area. One more thing, PACE yourself, this tour is definitely worth your money!
