“beautiful inside and outside”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

The Getty Center is not just a museum, tourists and occasional visitors go there for its architecture and its exhibits, but the truly dedicated locals go there because it's a great place to hang around. You can meet your friends and, why not, have a coffee at the museum cafe, or walk through the gardens. You can go there to study on a sunny day (most days of the year in L.A.), and enjoy the view of the city. And if that wasn't enough, you can always attend the special events that the museum holds from time to time (e.g. Saturday Nights at the Getty). This is a true gem of Los Angeles. (and don't forget the Getty Villa - see my review on that!)

“Not My Favorite”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

They had an interesting collection of art but I wasn't sure they were all originals. I loved the sculpture collection. The grounds are huge and they had at least one very fine restaurant. I just came away from it not feeling the love.

“Amazing, Even Knowing Expense Was Not A Concern”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

I'd seen photos of the Getty Museum, and had wanted to visit for some time and thought I knew what to expect. It is much larger and impressive than photos can even suggest. I took the architectural tour, which was work the hour or so. This is an amazing site, construction project, building, plan, and execution. Bravo!

“Take a day for this....”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

Getting to the Getty was a bit of an adventure because of Carmageddon, but we eventually found our way. We got to the parking lot ($15 for the day) and went down, down, down, trying not to think 'earthquake'. Once parked, things improved remarkably. We hopped on the spotless, silent, free shuttle to the museum. Other than lunch we never spent another cent. Everything is free. Our welcome guide was quick to tell us that all guided tours were free, and if we were passing one in progress and it sounded interesting to feel free to join it, and if it turned out to be not our thing, to feel free to just move on. There's a nice restaurant ($$$) and a very good cafe, where we had lunch. Lots of choices. The museum itself is wonderful. The architecture and gardens are awesome - something for everyone. Do go - you will be so glad you did.
