“Love this place”
Reviewed November 29, 2012 via mobile

Do yourself a favor and just go - sure, it appeals to the musuem and amateur photographer crowd, but the rotating art exhibits, beautiful architecture, and charming nooks and crannies that invite you to explore will slowly pull you in whether you like it or not.

My girlfriend and I took a trip here while visiting Santa Monica -- first time for her, second time for me -- and we had a great time. They were featuring some renaissance period pieces and sculptures, ancient scriptures and illuminations, and other artifacts from the 16 and 1700's that were unbelievably presented; At some points, it almost felt like we were transported back to the Victorian era, with well designed exhibits featuring authentic tapestries, furniture, and other knick knacks.

We brought some snacks from the S.M. Farmer's market, found a spot on the grass inside the Getty, and took a little break to rest our feet (everyone else is doing it, and it gives you a chance to soak in the surrounding garden and views).

I've already said too much, just check this place out, bring a camera, and let yourself get lost. Then you'll understand.

“visit for the architecture alone !”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

The buildings and the views from this place are first rate and worth the (free) admission and (not free) parking...:-) It is a bit crowded at times but the tram is a fun discovery and everything is spotlessly clean and well maintained. You should go just to see it even if the museum programs dont move you that much.

“Best Day in L.A.”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

I went to The Getty with friends who live in L.A. but had never been, and we all had a spectacular day. We spent about five hours touring the galleries, cafe and gardens, and we still wished we had gotten there earlier! Parking is $15, so take a big vehicle and lots of friends. Also, the food in the main cafe was exceptional. I had a squash risotto for $3 and turkey chili for $4 that filled me up for the afternoon. In-the-know locals take blankets and picnic on the lawn. This is a must-see attraction in L.A.!

“Beautiful place”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

Tour was good, digs great, sculpture garden great, but way too many teachers with school kids. The drive to the Getty was somewhat of a hassle. All in all, I am glad I went.
