Everything was wonderful from the French Onion Soup and bone maro to the Charcuturie plate, it is a little pricey but worth the money. There is free 2hr parking on the street where the restaurant is instead of spending four dollars across the street just watch out for the large trucks.

Sunday supper for $39 per person cannot be beat. Delicious freshly baked baguette. We ordered the puff pastry with snails, and mussel as side dishes.

Main server appeared to be bored at times. Food runner and others were great and friendly. Wine pairing was great.

Food was delicious. Dessert was ok; nothing extraordinary.

This place did not stand out. Sunday Supper at Lucques was always excellent with satisfied feeling. Here, since the dessert was ok, then the ending was not as memorable.

My wife and I got Xmas gift card from our son to Church and State. Loved the restuarant and loved the food! I miss my foie GRAS but their chicken liver pâté filled the void. I had the scallops and it was wonderful but my wife had the duck combo of breast and confit and it was the best duck we ever had! We know what we want for every Xmas now! Thx son

Church and State is a part of the growing trend of Euro-Style upscale gastropubs that are popping up everywhere. The chairs are uncomfortable, or at least not particularly comfortable. The tables are small and packed together. Dining is almost communal. Service can be spotty as they get busy and cent keep up in peak times. And it is loud. You almost need to yell across your table, particularly at lunch. Parking can be problematic as the neighborhood is bad, though at night several industrial loading areas open up as pay lots. And so, why go? Why the food of course. They do a very good job with the food. Following through with the European style and spartan interior, the food is the focus. Items are of the highest quality and presented very nicely. This is a good place for friends to meet up, but I would not put it on the short list of places to go for romance or special occasions where quiet might be desired. This is more appropriate for a group of 10 friends that want to enjoy laughter, good wine and excellent food. Take the girlfriend here when you are meeting her friends or she is meeting your friends. Maybe also decent second date material. Great place for a birthday party of 6 to 10. Not a place to meet the parents, celebrate an anniversary, propose, etc.

We LOVED this restaurant! It is in the middle of downtown Los Angeles in an industrial area, so we were a bit unsure about going there. However, the service was impeccable, the food was fantastic, and the prices were very reasonable for the exceptional quality. The herbed goat cheese with lavender honey appetizer and sliced toasts was so simple but perfectly spiced and enough for 3 or 4 people to share. The seasonal salad over butternut squash slices had a fresh combination of flavors. The mushroom and caramelized onion tart had a super thin crispy crust with incredible savory toppings - and it was also enough for 3 or 4 to share. The hanger steak with crispy thin fries was perfectly prepared and comes in a regular serving size or a petite version - just in case you fill up on lots of their yummy appetizers like we did. The waitress was very attentive and knew the dishes well. She kept a close eye on our table and was quick to refill our water and replenish our bread. When she was busy at another table, the bartender came over and refilled our water, which was pretty impressive. The bread was heavenly and don't overlook the butter that comes on the side, it must be French because it puts other butter to shame. This restaurant obviously cares about quality and it shows. I highly recommend it for a great meal.
