Stayed here as an alternative to a boring, smelly hotel.
LOCATION: OK. I wasn't thrilled with the neighborhood itself, but the proximity to other things was good. It was a very congested neighborhood & depending on which direction you venture, can go either uphill or downhill very fast.
ROOM: Stayed in room 2 - Zen Room. It was minimal, which I understand is the intention. It felt very much like a studio apartment I would have rented right out of college. No color on the walls - no art or anything else on the walls. Bathroom was very tiny w/ a shower/toilet & a frosted glass sliding door. I would not have been comfortable staying here w/ another person if I had to use the restroom. Sink was outside the restroom & the water spout was so close to the edge of the bowl it was a little awkward to get at the water w/out turning it on full blast.
The room was not well suited to the business traveler. There was no task lighting or desk/chair. The internet connection was HORRIBLE. Continually dropped & had to fight with it to get it back online. This happened each of the 3 days of my stay. Once it was connected it was fast, but it was frustrating.
The common area of the pensione was nice. Living room w/ large leather sectional - small balcony in back - kitchen with your own fridge.
Parking was a bit tricky. The driveway is EXTREMELY narrow & it looks like quite a few cars have made contact w/ the building/fence/posts along the side. Once you make it through the very narrow drive, there is a small area in back w/ 3 parking spaces. There were only 2 cars during my stay - thankfully. Any more than that - forget it. There is no room on the street to park over night because it's all taken, but I would have preferred to park on the street w/out the hassle of navigating the drive.
HOST: was great - very friendly - met me when I arrived, gave me the tour, let me know I could call if I needed anything at all.
Overall, a good alternative to a hotel. I don't think I would stay here again mainly based on the feel of the room - it was very stark & bland -felt a little neglected - in need of some freshening up.
