Farmer's Daughter Hotel

We stayed four nights at the FD which we found very individually styled with heart & charme. Rooms are OK but not the highest standard, better than a motel but somewhat simpler than a hotel. The location of FD is very good, just opposite Farmer's Market and The Grove which is a nice mall with loads of good options for shopping and dining. Never felt insecure, great start to explore L.A. too. The only thing I strongly disliked about the Farmer's Daughter was the omnipresent music playing in the patio at virtually any day & nighttime. We had a room facing the restaurant and patio and even with the windows closed we had a hard time falling asleep and woke up in the morning when they turned it on. A bit less volume & maybe turning it off when the TART closed would be a compromise. The fourth star of this review is due to the friendly and charming service which I can highly recommend.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the patio as noise from the restaurant and music might kill your sleep.

I have been coming to the Farmer's Daughter on and off for over six years because the location is ideal for my work in LA, access to The Grove, third street shops and newer food offerings like Peets Coffee, Trader Joe's and Mendocino Farms down the street. The rooms are getting a little worn down and because of this it makes it hard to keep looking clean overall, even if the room has been properly cleaned, sloppy or deferred maintenance could be to blame. One of my main issues is that they don't have any blackout curtains on the windows, so if you like total darkness to sleep its hard because of positioning of many outdoor lights that shine into most of the rooms. Other annoying aspects of the hotel are that sounds echo through the ill fitting metal doors and engineered hardwood floors if someone above is wearing hard sole shoes, plus it lends itself to a sterile institutional feel with the outdoor hallways. Overall a good value in LA if you want a place just to crash, work at their indoor lobby and outdoor seating area, plus the staff usually is usually really nice. The free chocolate cookies and tart pink lemonade are a nice touch in the late afternoon if you like your cookies on the crispy side.

I've stayed here many times on my trips back to LA. (Lived in LA almost 20 years). Clean, quaint, affordable boutique hotel in a PRIMO location. I start each morning at the Farmer's Market, just across the street. Amazing people watching, and you might even see a film shoot. MANY restaurants to choose ( from donuts to ethnic to chi-chi) and generally, just a great place to hang out. Take your walking shoes, as you can walk off some of the yummy food at the Pan Pacific Park just east of The Grove.

If you're looking for a "step above" without spending a fortune, check this out!

We stayed two nights at the Farmers Daughter and two nights at the Viceroy..Yes the two hotels are night and day but the rates not so far apart..I got a "deluxe double" at the farmers daughter..When I entered the room there was nothing "deluxe" about it..Just a small Motelish room with two double beds and tiny bathroom..I asked the non caring employees at the front desk what a "deluxe" meant and they said the small two drawer 'extra storage" bureau in the closet..Ohh sorry I didnt notice that..A room rate of $100 to $150 would be more than appropriate for a motel of this sort..even at check out I said "thankyou" something the front desk didnt feel the need to say back..I will say the tart restaurant is a jem..food great...however they music is turned on at 6am...so you might not want a room close to hear that..also the pool is tiny and not very inviting...I would say 2 nights is the max you would want to stay here...then move on to a nicer hotel with probably the same rates

This was a fantastic hotel to stay in just opposite The Grove. The hotel was very unique and it was refreshing staying somewhere like this. The room was clean, with a lovely shower and comfy beds. The staff were very friendly and there was often lemonade, crisps or cookies in the lobby. The hotel's restaurant 'Tart' is also very nice and a bit of a celeb hot spot!!

An ok hotel in a great location. Room was very dark and a little dated but was clean. Free lemonade and cookies in reception were a nice touch a were the budgerigars. Parking was extortionate. Considering you were a guest no difference was made to the valet parking fee which was a little greedy.

The Farmer's Daughter boutique hotel was one of the more pleasant surprises I've had while traveling. When I travel for business, it's usually for a purpose, but when I travel for vacation, I like to be entertained and try something new. If you're the same way, you're going to love this experience.

As I mentioned, great spot for TV Fans, directly across the street from CBS Television City (for The Price is Right, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, etc.), you're within a two minute walk. You're also about five minutes from the Grove, which has shopping and boutique restaurants (and also films TV's Extra on premises daily). Throw in access to a local Farmer's market, plus some other fantastic amenities, and you're set to come here without a car and still have a great time.

Now to the hotel itself? Some reviews may throw around 'motel' or other lower terms, but if you expect to have a smaller room, you'll be fine. The amenities could be better, the beds are firm and the bathroom could use some updating, but the pool filled with rubber ducks and the on site free chocolate chip cookies and lemonade are outstanding. Couple that with a great built in restaurant that brings room service in a picnic basket and you're all set.

But here's the real hidden gem of this hotel that I can sum up in one word: Ted. No, not the Mark Wahlberg movie, I'm talking about Ted, the night desk manager who can share with you the secrets to getting on The Price is Right? Don't believe me, then check out the hundreds of Polaroids featuring guests who stayed and how they got on the show. His late night class was a great way to wind down the evening and learn about getting on the show. He will share with you little secrets about what you say on the lot and how you speak to the producers can give you the edge to get to contestants row. I can't say if someone in my group got on the show, but I can say we had an amazing time and walked away with some great memories :).

All in all, I encourage you to 'Do It at the Daughter' (their theme, not mine) and spend a few nights here. If you're in town for a short time, and coming with an older family, girls weekends, guys weekends, or just a couple, you'll be glad you did. Older folks and those who aren't used to city life may be a little overwhelmed, but this roll in the hay will be fun, and definitely the experience you'll remember in the future.
