Located just at the western end of the Hollywood Blvd., the bed and breakfast is in a house with lots old but neat furnishings, tons of old and new books, statues, and endearing paraphnelia that all adds to the atmosphere.

The hearty and delicious breafast is served by the very friendly and accommodating Mr. Sylvester who strived to cater to our every wish.

The rooms are not very large, but perfectly adequate. Very good value for money. Private parking is a bliss. Wheelchair-accessible with some serious help (also check beforehand for door sizes).

We spent a week at the Secret Garden and couldn't be happier. Sylvester was hospitable and his breakfasts are to die for, with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and more than enough to eat (we went without lunch on the strength of these breakfasts). The house itself is charming, loaded with antiques, a little funky but very inviting. We stayed in the "cottage" out back, which provided privacy and sat amidst delightful gardens. The Secret Garden will not please those who seek the pristine, cutesy kinds of places one often finds in B&B listings: it's a little rough around the edges but that adds to its charm in our book. You can't beat the location: basically Sunset Blvd. and Laurel Canyon Blvd., in an easily walkable neighborhood, just below a Frank Lloyd Wright house and the Hollywood Hills, just down the street from the Sunset Strip, walking distance (if you're vigorous) to the Hollywood sights. And the price was considerably below what we expected to pay in this location. There's on-site, gated parking -- tight quarters, but valuable given where you are. Do pay attention to the reviews that tell you how to find it, though -- it's not simple to reach the first time; so call ahead and get directions from Sylvester. Sylvester is wonderful (as was Thomas the one morning he was there). Both of them are involved with the theater, which made for interesting conversations. The two cats who reside there couldn't be more different, but are a nice touch. We will definitely be back.

We arrived at the Secret Garden, parked at the front and walked to the car entrance, this made it much easier to find with all the fast moving traffic in the Hollywood Boulevard area. It is best to telephone on arrival and then Sylvester will be there to welcome you and what a wonderful welcome! On arrival we were shown all the amenities , including laptop and printer, free Wi-Fi ( a bit slow, but perfectly adequate), kitchen, toaster, microwave, tea, coffee and piles of bread, buns etc. to nibble on at any time. The house is amazing.. a beautiful 1920’s /30’s property which has rooms which flow from one to the other – guests have the free use of all the rooms. They are full of interesting objects which contribute to the quirky feel of this B & B. Our room (room 2) was large, light and clean with a very comfortable large bed. There were some items in some of the drawers, but not a problem! The rambling garden has seen better days, but was good to sit in. An unusual house, a bit worn at the edges, but a great place to relax and feel contented after a hard days sightseeing.
Breakfast was amazing! At breakfast, seated at the huge dining table, Sylvester would come out from the kitchen with a welcoming smile, bowls of fresh fruit, coffee and fruit juice. On the first morning we then made our own toast! A moment later Sylvester appeared with a huge plate for each of us with salad (lettuce, tomato, sliced onions, and cucumber), an omelette and a large swathe of smoked salmon! This appeared every morning of our four night stay! It varied, sometimes two huge bacon chops instead of the smoked salmon or loads of sausages.. always enough to keep us going all day!! No need for the toast!
There were good restaurants recommended by Sylvester, to walk to, but mostly we used the car to get around. The Secret Garden was great value for money. We will definitely return, it was a most amazing, eccentric house to experience and we need one of Sylvester’s breakfasts again!

Our family really liked this place with antique furniture and lots of interesting art.
Very friendly staff, big breakfast.
Only drawback is that it can be a bit tricky to find your way the first time, and the GPS tried to fool us. The adress is Selma Av, but the entrance to the parking area is a very sharp right turn on Crescent Heights Blvd going south.

Room Tip: The "cottage" in the garden is best for privacy, the rooms in the house if You need WiFi.

We read some recent reviews & decided to make our own comments.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Secret Garden B&B in LA!
We have stayed in LA so many times over the years even stayed in some rather nice/expensive rooms in some of the best known hotels in LA, but never really enjoyed our previous LA trips. In fairness it's often a stopover enroute from Sydney, so it's often only a jetlagged nite or two on our way somewhere else. However the last time we wanted to stay somewhere different in LA & booked TSGB&B. This B&B is perfectly located & put the heart & soul into LA on our most recent LA trip ..we are now looking forward to our next trip to LA!
The main thing is that it is NOT a soulless large hotel chain, where everything is quite clean & sterile ...where all rooms on all floors look the same ...there is a nameless person to greet you when you arrive, a nameless person to clean your room or serve you breakfast, your name appears on the screen when you turn on the TV & you don't interact with the staff or even the other guests - don't get me wrong sometimes all this is good, but it is a tad predictable.
From the moment we met D&S at TSGB&B we were welcomed into their home & treated like friends who were staying with them, which was so lovely in a city which personally we have never found very friendly.
Ok, so the doorbell didn't work when we were there, but we rang their cell & Sylvester arrived in a few minutes ...but the wait gave us time to look around, enjoy the garden, look at their great LA home & the hills beyond. We weren't in a hurry ...we were on holidays & staying with friends.
We loved our room overlooking the back garden. OK our bathroom & bedroom were a little daggy (Aussie term, not up to the minute fashionable but homely) ... & not really furnished to our tastes, a few too many trinkets & a bit cluttered for our personal taste ...but we were staying in a someone's home (that is what a B&B is all about) & like when anyone stays in anyone's else's home, you don't look for faults, creased linen or dust, you just enjoy your stay. After all we all have dust in our own homes! That is what makes a B&B different to a hotel.
The next morning we were VERY happy to help ourselves to brekkie (like we do at home) & there was a large and varied array of food on offer.
The most memorable part of our stay was the fantastic eclectic collection of antiques on display in their home ...from the jade screen in the hall, the Lalique cats on the grand piano in the sunroom, marble statues, Chinese rosewood cabinets, the fantastic silver Deco firescreen ....etc.
We simply loved our stay, A very memorable room, in a very memorable house with very memorable people.
Thank you!
ps We walked 15mins from TSGB&B to Hollywood & Highland (Chinese Theatre, Hollywood stars ...etc) & got a short train ride to Universal. We later walked 3mins to Chateau Marmont & had dinner & drinks in Bar Marmont. It was soooo central to everything we wanted to do

I first time stayed at the Secret Garden Bed and Breakfast 10 years ago, Easter 2002 to be exact, when Raymond Bilbool still hosted the BnB. Since then I (with family and friends) have stayed there at least 10 times over the years. Many of the reviews posted are - I must admit - plain ridiculous. The Secret Garden Bed and Breakfast is in my view a great place to stay, not only the service but also the location are excellent, not far from Sunset Strip, but sure a lot quieter than any of the hotels and motels along the Sunset Strip. The BnB is located right in the middle of Hollywood and we always take the opportunity to enjoy a morning walk in the Hollywood Hills (where you might even have a chat with other people than tourists) in the residential area just above to the BnB, or to the famous "Greenblatt's Deli", just minutes away on walking distance. Walking distance to places like Chateau Marmont is 5 mintes. This BnB is not a sterile hotel, but a place where you know the owner and the host and you meet a variety of guests, ranging from students doing a once in a lifetime road trip in the U.S., business people planning their meetings with people in the entertainment industry to people who stay there to meet old friends, because they once lived in the area, but moved to other places in the U.S. In a house from the beginning of the 20th century there is a little dust and there are cats (Ethel and Lucie) in the house, but again, this is not a sterile hotel in which you in these days sometimes even no longer find a reception. Sylvester is a great host and what I value is that he remembers my food preferences and even our birthdays. When my 18-year old daughter and I stayed there during Halloween 2011 Sylvester sure did not forget the birthday cake. We will sure be back!

Some of these reviews are just plain ridiculous. The Secret Garden Bed and Breakfast is an excellent place to stay if you're in need of quality service and hospitality in Hollywood. The location is amazing! Sunset and Vine is right in the middle of Hollywood, and surrounded by so many sights and attractions. I stayed last week on a business trip, and it's a nice alternative to typical hotel locations that are usually overpriced and crowded.

Room Tip: The cottage is the best room.
