It’s situated on the seventh floor of the Medici building, a seemingly new and luxurious building on South Bixel street and 7th. The appartment itself was newly decorated and had lots of space and all the amenities; everything in tiptop shape. It was absolutely perfect and a brilliant place to stay, especially with kids. The pictures you see on their site give a true impression of the place.
The building itself is safe and very quiet and in a safe neigbourhood with shops, supermarket and restaurants within walking distance (FIGat7th is a five minute walk). Most residents seem (semi)permanent; mostly young, well-to-do and international (and keeping to themselves).
Parking is free in the gated parking under the building (you get two designated spaces). The pool and hottub are brilliant albeit it tricky to find as you have to navigate thru this big complex.
We checked in by picking up the key at the office on S Hope Street; a couple of days in advance we got an email with very clear instructions so it was easy to find. From there an accountmanager, in our case Melvin, took us to the building, explained how to use the single electronic key needed to open all doors and operate the elevator and showed us the appartment (and how to reach the pool). We exchanged phone numbers so we could reach him if we needed to and he sent us all the instructions, maps and directions we needed by Whatsapp. He was very professional and friendly and it kinda felt like he was letting us use his own appartment. And when the toaster broke down, he made sure we got a new one the same day.
Checkout was just as simple; we dropped the key off at the office (you can stop right in front of it) and that was that.
Were there no downsides? Well, just having one key is a bit of a nuisance if you want to split up (you always need a key to move thru the building) but they might give you a second one. The most important thing to realise is the fact that the appartment is right on the Harbor freeway. And although the double glazing keeps out most of the noise, there is a discernable drone of traffic 24/7 and the occasional siren or extra loud Mustang. It didn’t bother us, but if you are a light sleeper, you need to bring earplugs. And forget about sitting on that balcony; it’s like taking a picknick on the breakdown lane....
