Owner description: A public observatory owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles for the benefit of all. Located in on Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, the Observatory offers a planetarium, exhibits, public telescopes, cafe, bookstore, and the best views of the Los Angeles basin. Admission is free, and visitors may drive directly to the Observatory and park in its lots and roads.

After a rain event or wind storm, one should make a 'bee-line' to the Griffith Park Observatory and city park. You will get a beautiful panoramic view of the LA basin and if you're lucky, you may see Catalina Island (some forty miles away). The observatory is well worth spending some time inside, but beware, it didn't open till noon when we visited. But the best part are all the trails in and around the park, which is especially good after the air has been 'cleansed' by the rain & wind.

If you want to have a great time in Los Angeles make sure you visit the Griffith Observatory during the morning.

You can acrually hike up the hill and enjoy the beautiful views of the city and the hollywood sign. Make sure you enter the projected shows - the speaker is the best, she'll transport you to another dimension.

I enjoyed this place so much. It's so interesting... After you visit the observatory try going to Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive and then on to hollywood...

Worth the visit to any local or traveller. The views are breathtaking! I never went into the observatory, rather I walked around the outside just to take in the incredible views of LA. With going at sunset to see the city turn into a light fest!

Even if you dont like stars/planets etc. This place will change your views.
The Location and shows are excellent. The museum is free but there is a small fee for the shows.
Totally worth paying for the show. The dome screen is huge and makes the images very dynamic.
You can get a live view of the Sun surface. How cool is that!! You see this huge pendulum and try to understand the rotation of the earth and many more interesting facts.

The views from this place is spectacular. Informative, educational, value for money and guaranteed
fun time.

If you want to see what LA looks like and you don't have an airplane this is the next best thing. We had a clear day and you could see for tens of miles in every direction. Oh yes this is an observatory and you will not believe the wonderful time you can spend here for several hours. We really enjoyed this and it's free!
