The drive up to the Observatory was quite lovely....it's hard to believe that you are so close to LA and yet so far...
Once you reach the Observatory the views of LA and surrounds are spectacular. The Observatory itself is very informative indeed, it is beautifully set out and lots of staff around to assist if you have questions. This is probably the closest you will get to the Hollywood sign.....great photo opportunities.
Get there early if you are driving .....very limited parking available.

If you have never been, or if you have been 100 times, every visit to the Griffith Observatory is unique and lovely. Stunning views (on a clear day you can see the ocean) and lots of interesting exhibits inside the renovated building. Catch the planetarium show if nothing else.

This was a fun experience for those who want to view the city from a great vantage point and get a little exercise. The parking near the building was full, so I had to park down the hill and walk up. It was a great walk.

If you are into star gazing, learning about the universe, astrology, etc, the observatory will be a great visit. There is lots of information on the planets, the atmosphere, our history in terms of researching the universe, etc. Most of all, the visit is totally Free, which is a rare treat. There are additional hiking trails and lots to see outdoors as well. You will get an awesome view of the Hollywood sign. If you pick the right spot, this is a great photo opp.

We had some trouble parking our car, since the parking lot is quite limited considering the amount of visitors this place has.

During our visit the weather was cold but it wasn't cloudy so we had a great view - including the Hollywood sign which is a must for us tourists.

We paid a $7 ticket to watch a show in the planetarium and we loved it.

I´m not an astronomy fan but I enjoyed the explanation that they gave us on the Foucault pendulum.

We highly recommend it!!

A good place to visit if you’re into science, planets and universe stuff.
A fantastic view of both downtown LA and the Hollywood sign back up on the hills.
Even you're not into science, you'll enjoy learning about how everything works. I highly recommand it.

Tip: Arrive early as limited parking space is available at top and may have hard time finding parking spot middle of the day & weekend
