I so wanted to view the observatory from first seeing it in "Rebel without a Cause" but the steep, winding road without guiderails and a car on my tail, it was impossible for me to reach.

Go early in the morning and go through the Observatory. Bring a lunch with you and have a picnic, then take a short hike on one of the paths in Griffith Park. If you go in the evening, you'll be treated to one of the most spectacular sunsets you've ever seen. I am a teacher and I bring my club up there on a night when the amateur astronomers bring their telescopes and allow my kids to look through them. (Look on the web site under Star walk) Don't miss the spiral walk inside the observatory depicting the big bang made out of brooches and jewelry donated by Angelenos.

Don't miss the Griffith Observatory! We went late in the evening and not only did we go through the entire facility, we also were greeted outside with staff and their telescopes for an amazing learning experience.

Great, free activity. We took a picnic with us before snapping pictures with the Hollywood sign in the background. Unfortunately it was too cloudy to enjoy the telescope.

Originally went to view the Hollywood sign, but stayed longer once we went inside the Observatory building. There were exhibits related to the sun, space, science, and travel. There are excellent views of LA and the Hollywood sign from the Observatory. We went early on a Sunday, but would recommend visiting on a weekday.
