Art Deco heaven. Great show. Views to die for
and of course, the James Dean statue.
Go on a clear winter day.

Amazing scenery, perfect for day one of your trip. Drive up is part of the fun, and the admission is free.

One of the best kept secrets about LA. Best view point to see the city during day and night. You get some fantastic pictures from the top. It overlooks the whole city. Lots of TV and movies were filmed up here. The planetarium is brilliant too and its FREE. It's only open from Wednesday to Sunday. We went on the wrong day, but the view was still brilliant.

Easily accessible by public transport. Take metro to Vermont/Sunset. It's convenient to get to - there's a shuttle bus ($0.50) that runs every 30 mins or so from the Metro Rail station. When we were there this was only running on weekends. Might have changed now.

It's really easy to get to if you have hired a car. Must stop before you leave LA.

Worth the drive past the expensive Houses up to the Observatory an Art Deco beauty set in the hills looks down on the whole of LA. you can see the Hollywood sign, beaches of Santa Monica as well as towards down town LA and the mountains beyond. It's free to go in the Park and worth the trip. Take a picnic and enjoy the views and country side. Note the observatory is shut on Monday not that it matters as you can walk round the outside and enjoy the look out points.

Griffith Observatory is a Los Angeles icon. Featured in "Rebel Without a Cause" and countless television shows and movies it is an important place to demonstrate that one has visited Los Angeles.
