“Short stay, but impressed with service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

We were only at the LA Hotel Downtown for two nights over New Year's and spent very little time in the hotel itself. However, we were very impressed with the quality service from all of the staff during what was an incredibly busy time between the holiday and large football crowd.

As others have noted, the hotel is undergoing renovations. However, during our short stay the only noticeable impact was on the hotel restaurant. That space is under construction, so a temporary space has been set up.

The hotel is located downtown and convenient to several restaurants (mostly chain) and to LA Live/Staples Center. Our main purpose for visiting was to attend the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, so the hotel's easy access to the Metro was important to us (about a 3 block walk).

While the New Year's rates were certainly not what I would consider "cheap," they were comparable with the other large hotels in the vicinity. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was large enough for the nice crib they provided for our baby. The rooms were relatively well insulated, as we did not hear much in the way of noise from the hallway or other rooms. Some slight street noise could be heard from the 11th floor, but nothing distracting enough to keep us from sleeping.

Overall, it was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff during a very busy time that was most impressive to us.

This Hotel is now a Hyatt Regency after undergoing a 25 mil.$ reno.
Great Hotel in the Middle of downtown L.A.
Staff could not of been nicer.
Used this for our Rose Bowl trip.
Restaurant is being renovated at this time but food was served in different venues. Which was ok because it was not their regular restaurant.
Parking is 35.00/day valet.
Rooms were spacious and very clean since they are new. T.V.'s are new but I don't think they upgraded thier service because it was not HD or 16:9.
Not alot of walking around but some restaurants close to Disney Concert Hall and Grand Park. Metro a few blocks away

Room Tip: Had room 842 near freeway some sounds all night and view of air conditioners.

Great location, as downtown as it can possibly get and right next to the freeway.
Great property, on the final stages of a complete renovation.
Friendly and very helpful staff, great food variety at breakfast.
An all around solid choice for an LA stay.

First time staying their and loved it. Easy to get to the Staple Center. We stayed their New Years eve. They were busy with all the football media their, but were very helpful with anything we needed. The rooms are very nice, bed was nice and comfy. Bathroom shower very nice and updated. A lot to walk and see around the hotel.

I stayed here before when it was a Marriott and it has been rebranded and remodeled. The rooms were amazing and everything was new. They charge for wifi but you can do a one hour option for 2.95 which is nice. The Hyatt name is doing well for this hotel and you will be comfortable here for sure.

I travel to LA for work several times a month and stayed here recently when my first-choice hotel wasn't available. Hyatt is converting this hotel into a Hyatt Regency and the common areas and rooms are quite nice. Staff was also very friendly and upgraded me to a suite at check-in.

I'm only giving 4 stars because the restaurant/bar was dated and a bit depressing, although I understand this will be addressed in future renovations. I'd stay here in the future, and hopefully the restaurant/bar renovations will earn a 5 star review.

Stayed here 4 nights in late November. Do enjoy Hyatts as a brand and this one did not disappoint. Soon to be a Hyatt Regencey, it has been a lengthy transition. Enjoyed the room, upgraded to a Vista Suite, many many windows which were great. The restaurant on site was great. The customer service by all staff was profession and helpful. Room service was very good. On site workout/gym room was adequate. Enjoyed the outdoor pool on fall LA weekend afternoon....would return
