The Hotel Bel Air provides an experience for each of your senses I can only describe as suddenly discovering the finest of something—a DaVinci, a new succulent fruit, a lost work of Brahms, the finest silk. There are layers to each space and experience, so that I simply had to review and reflect on each moment to ensure I captured each facet. The serpentine road up to the entrance is surrounded by such a variety of lush trees and unique fauna, you want to drive slowly to take it in. The lobby offers one scent from glowing candles, and then as I’m taken to my room, each passageway provides another delicate aroma from the abundant flowers.
My room provided every modern convenience – from the Bang & Olufsen television to the master controls for every mechanical function on the phone. The marble bathroom’s gently heated floor was immense and of course offered another tv for the oversized tub. Thick sheets, fresh flora, decadent towels—everything was perfection.
And, you must get a bite in the bar to observe Alan shaking out a fabulous cadence with a touch of swing to make his handcrafted cocktails. He seemed to know every guest by name. In fact, every person I met seemed intent on making sure I felt more than welcome---like going to your own version of Oz.
There is nothing you feel like you couldn’t request—and with 24 hours for room service and fitness center, an expansive spa and grotto-like pool, I wasn’t sure I would ever want to leave. I had the occasion to take a short trip in the Hotel’s car service and was again amazed with the kindness and helpfulness of the driver.
Hotel Bel Air is uniquely superlative, not just in LA, but in the United States, in my opinion. Having traveled the country and the world for work and pleasure, I have never experienced anything quite so perfect. Come here to treat yourself, celebrate your love, or just to treasure life.
