First time in LA, 1st leg of our honeymooon (4 days in LA, 8 in Hawaii) and could not have had a better start.

Location - for us, was very convenient. It´s in the LA Live complex, a great spot for the night with restaurants and show centers (the Emmy awards were held here, 2 days after our departure). It´s a 15 min walk to the subway (which doesn´t seem to be used by tourists and locals as everybody moves by car...) from where you can access several interesting spots fast and cheap. LA Live has easy access to a major highway and its in the "financial district" (so to speak). Coming to this area at night is cool as you can see the skyscrapers (the tallest in LA) and all the lights The holtel and also its adjacent cousin - the Ritz - stand out at night due to the shape an lightning. To rent a car, forget the Hotel as an Avis office is nearby (5 min walk) and they´re keen on offering you a good deal - we got a Lincoln MKS premium sedan for the price of a compact car. There´s a public parking right in front of the hotel which is way cheapper and has all day parking. Tip - if you rent a car, a GPS is highly recommended!

Facilities - if you like modern, then you´ll like the hotel. It´s well decorated, the lobby, the bars and the LA Market restaurant (not tried but highly recommended from what we read and heard) are stylish. Good pool. As for the rooms, very spacious, good noise and light isolation. In-room free coffee, water and tea, replenished everyday. Ipod dock. Great bathroom, also spacious and with very good amenities. Very confy bed with several types of pillows to choose from. Do ask for a high-level floor to get a view

Service - we tried the room service for food and to asked for other things and they exceded our expectations. The concierge were allways helpfull and with good tips.

Food - as said, we asked for room service upon arrival. Very good but not cheap. But hey, it´s not a budget hotel. We also tried once the small "café" on the left of the lobby for breakfast and we liked it. Nearby (just ask at the hotel) there is a place called "The Original Pantry". It´s open 24-7 (really) and seems to be an institution around there. Serves typically american food and it´s breakfasts are famous (for a portuguese, it´s a bit of a shock to see what they eat for breakfast, no wonder americans tend to have heart conditions). It´s a cheap place and the portions are huge, good for sharing. Also close to the hotel, there is a cheap italian restaurant with oven-cooked pizzas. Breakfast is not included in the daily rate and like in several places in America, is terribly expensive so each day we went out to get it

What we did in LA? One day at the Universal Studios, another cruising along the sea, stopping at the beaches and ending the day in Santa Monica (beach, the famous pier, 3rd street promenade for stroling around, shopping and dinning). One entire day to drive in and around the city (Mullholland drive, Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, Sunset Blv, Farmer´s Market, etc etc) and exploring the hills were they have amazing houses. The last day to visit Hollywood Boulevard, the theatres, Walk Of Fame, etc.

All in all, great stay in LA made greater by the JW Mariott !!!!!

We booked a room with two double beds for 3 people (a quick girls' getaway/reunion!). I expected a cramped room but was pleasantly surprised at how spacious the room was for 3 people. We were on the very top floor facing the LA Live side with the flashing lights and billboards, but when you close both sets of drapes, we didn't have any issues with lights shining through at night. However, I'm not sure if this would be an issue if you were on a lower floor where you're at eye level with the neon billboards. We requested a room facing the mountains, but they were sold out. There was a huge convention going on that weekend, so you should check in advance to see what kind of conventions are going on.

The hotel and room feel very new, the decor is modern, and rooms are comfy. Bathrooms spacious and clean. The fitness room was above average and clean. Valet is pricy at $40. I thought it might be inconvenient to have to pick up your car on the 2nd level parking garage from the valet service, but it wasn't bad at all because it was less congested than the main entrance where cars were constantly pulling in and out.

Location was convenient in that there was easy freeway access, but it wasn't really near any attractions except for the LA Live events.

All in all, we enjoyed staying at this hotel because of how comfortable, clean, spacious and modern our room was. It added to our weekend experience, and I would definitely come back here.

Where to start. Shower: You have to step inside to rotate the handle, and get a nice cold surprise every morning. It was a chance to invent new language. Room Coffee: The hotel completely out of little packets! Another chain would bargain and obtain coffee before the catastrophe! It's not that hard! Curtains: Get ready for a nightly light show as the huge lighted advertisements outside on the adjoining walls will form a colorful band of glow across the top of the window - the strobe effect was outstanding at 11:30 p.m. Maid service: It became a game to guess what they would forget to replenish next. Parking fee and in-house restaurant was pricey. But why is it terrible for conventioneers? Because the night before checkout, we verified we could store our luggage in the morning in-house, as we had a half-day of convention activities left. On checkout morning, we called for a bellman and were told (leaving out the details of a multitude of phone calls, changing explanations, snooty to rude hotel staff, and the hour and a half to resolve the issue) that we were to HAUL our luggage to the Convention Center and then BACK again to get our car parked downstairs to leave. I am not kidding. That was their solution. This huge hotel only had room to store 100 bags (bellman quoted) and it was not offered to us after a 4-night stay. They finally relented and had a bellman take me and our pieces to my car to load the luggage and repark the car. I'm sure the Reward points will be worth it. Bye now! Travel safe! :)

We had great service, and a nice clean room. It was perfect for what we needed and we really appreciated the free bottled water and coffee/coffee maker in the room. Location was great for walking to the convention center and to restaurants.

Room Tip: It's a bit more interesting to have a room that overlooks the pool.

Location for conferences, Staples and restaurants is great. Rooms are really good, excellent bed and shower, BUT there is no mini bar and the small fridge isn't realll a fridge, more a storage box that doesn't keep contents cold. I find this really strange and inconvenient for a 5-star hotel! Service wasn't pro-active.
