Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Hollywood Hotel Walk of Fame
Ranked #43 of 355 Hotels in Los Angeles
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 26, 2009

Comfortable new hotel with many excellent features. Spacious, quiet rooms, eye-level wall safes, curved shower rails, full length mirror, separate reading lights, free breakfast with good coffee, free business centre. Top of the 'budget' category with better features but less services than many 4/4.5 star hotels. They've even got towels big enough to wrap around my big belly!

Highly recommended but there were two adverse factors you should consider:
1/ The aircon works but it is noisy - it only works on auto which means it woke me up at night as it comes on and goes off again.
2/ the hotel is excellent and well situated for the Walk of Fame but do you really want to be there? We spent 3 nights here which was about two too many since the area has few decent bars or restaurants and is full of people on the scrounge - panhandlers, nut jobs and 'servers' who spend more time telling you about their 'gratuities policy' than getting your order right.

Great hotel - beds are so comfortable, pillows amazing, nice clean rooms. The best is the location, a short walk to the walk of fame and where it all happens, close to all shops and restaurants. Reception staff very friendly and obliging. This was our first stop on a six week tour of America and it was a great start to our holiday. Highly recomend

We came to this hotel from Las Vegas - we took the Luxbus from Vegas which took 4 1/2 hours. It was a really pleasant journey. the bus was modern and drinks, snacks and movies were provided. there was also a stop along the way. This bus was only $64!

We stayed at this hotel from the 2 June 2009 to the 6 June 2009.

We stayed in a standard room which was well laid out and of a good size. it had all of teh usual bits and pieces...nice smellies in the bathroom, a good hairdryer, two large and very comfortable double beds, TV with many channels, air con, fridge and tea/coffee making facilities.

The rooms were very clean and we had new towels anmd sheets every day.

Breakfast was included and there was plenty of choice. the breakfast attendant was also very helpful and chatty.

The pool was quite small, but it was warm and very clean and very well received after a hot day out and about.

The hotel was about 5 mins walk from Hollywood Boulevard where you could get transport to most locations.

One day we took the metro to universal studios which was only one stop away. The tube was clean and not busy. We then took the free shuttle bus from the metro station to Universal Studios.

The second day we took the metro bus from hollywood boulevard to Santa monica and had a fab day...if you go try Bubba Gumps the shrimp if awesome! We walked from Sanat Monica to Venice beach it was a nice walk but it took a good hour. Venice Beach is nothing special and once you have seen it you are ready to go back to Santa Monica! The bus service was great and cost only $5 each to hop and ond off all day.

We also took the Bus to Beverly Hills, Farmers Market and The Grove all for $5 all day travel what a bargain.

I would say this hotel is a good base to explore Hollywood and if you dont mind travelling a good base to explore further afield. I woudl definately stay here again.

We had four adults and one toddler. We stayed in the two queen deluxe room on the fourth floor and it was a great stay! We had lots of room to spread out and for our toddler to run around. The hotel seemed brand new or newly renovated. It was a great location and the Galleria mall area is so convenient and enjoyable. We ate three of our meals there and loved it. The breakfast at the hotel was very decent and convenient. We didn't use the pool but it looked pretty nice. The beds and pillows were really comfortable too. The hotel staff was friendly and super helpful. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and will definitely stay there again if we have the chance.

We stayed here for one night using Priority Club points. The valet and the check in desk staff were excellent, some of the nicest people we met in our one week drive down the Pacific Coast HIghway. We got a gift bag at check in with chips and water (nice treat!) and the rooms were spacious and great. Breakfast was excellent and the business center was open late (very handy - something that was a problem at other hotels we stayed at in CA) and we have no complaints at all. The pool is small but seemed to be heated. No jacuzzi but a handy little workout room which I did get to use. Parking is $20 a night. You are in the heart of Hollywood and even though getting into the hotel i.e. crossing traffic is a pain as other reviewers have intimated, you can easily go up Highland Avenue, past the hotel and turn left at the next intersection, and then just come back down the hill and turn right into the hotel. We were glad that other Trip Advisor reviewers had warned about this though as it helped us be on the lookout for it. You can walk to the Grauman Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame easily (10 minutes) and Paramount is close by. There is also a great mall with lots of restaurants right next to the Grauman Theatre where you can have your photo taken with the Hollywood sign in the background. The rooms are large and have coffee and a frig. Nice bathroom with great amenities. Really, a very good and convenient place to stay and the jacaranda trees all over Hollywood were blooming - it was pretty!

Stayed at this hotel for one night to see the walk of fame. Excellent price for the location, clean and friendly concierge- when we arrived tired and hot. Only a very short safe walk to the sights, even with 9 and 6 yr olds in tow. We ate at the u- wink- kids loved the create your own burger and the games at the table (actually so did the adults). The pool is small but just right for a little swim. The free breakfast very generous and perfect to start the day. All in all an excellent spot for seeing exactly what we wanted to see, the walk of fame, graumans theatre, kodak theatre etc. Also a short drive away from the best spot to see the hollywood sign - Griffith observatory. Don't hesitate to book this place.

We stayed here from 16 to 20 May 2009. The location was great, with spacious & clean room as well as sumptuous breakfast. However, if my friends/family or I were to visit LA in the near future, I will not return or recommend this hotel at all.

Due to some last minute changes, we booked a Suite on the first night and a Standard Room for the rest of the nights. On the first night, two strangers knocked on our door repeatedly at 4am and tried to force it open. Being a light sleeper, I was woken up by it but thought it was probably just my imagination. Minutes later, when the nuisance continued, I woke my husband up and he talked to the men. The seemingly drunk men insisted that we should open the door as they believed the person they're looking for is inside our room. As tourists, we were scared for our lives. Security was obviously lacking there. We called the Reception, police came, we heard some loud noise outside and found out the next morning that the guests in our next room were asked to leave. Our following day was ruined as we didn't have a good night rest and were too tired to enjoy our itinerary.

One of the Reception staff was friendly but gave us the wrong directions to Warner Bros Studios. We hard to learn this the hard way, where we walked aimlessly for 30 mins searching for the place, when we could have come off the bus much earlier. So do double check whatever directions/facts before you leave for your intended destination. Also, as we wanted to do web check-in for our flight home which is past midnight and this can only be done 24 hours before, we requested for usage of computer the night before at the Reception. The Reception staff on-duty wasn't very happy that we interrupted her 'sleep' and was grumpy throughout the 10 minutes we were there. We would have gone to the Business Centre if we could, but the printer was faulty there and we had to print our boarding passes as part of the process.

Those were just little hiccups which we can afford to forgive and forget. But what happens next is rather intolerable to me.

When we went to the Reception on 17 May morning to be transferred to a Standard Room which we've booked for the next 3 nights, the Reception upgraded us to remain in the Suite although we did NOT ask for it or complain about anything. Little did we know the real trouble began here.

Upon returning to my country, I realized that I've been charged an extra US$90 for the taxes of room upgrade that we didn't ask for! Bearing in mind that I wasn't even asked to sign or authorize any transaction when we checked out. When questioned, the Management explained that I've been charged for the extra balance of taxes on room upgrade. I replied to inform the whole situation - that the upgrade was given voluntarily by the Reception staff without any requests from neither me or my husband - and even gave a detailed table of amount paid. It has been over a week and I'm still waiting for a reply. Desperate for a solution, I've also emailed the Holiday Inn Guest Relations but to no avail. Lesson to learn here is well, I don't know....maybe decline any complimentary upgrade given or to be safe and trouble-free, don't stay there? The after-sales service definitely needs some serious bucking up.

I hope the Management will kindly reply to my email, rectify the situation promptly and reverse the charges for something I did not ask for. I am a fellow hotelier too and know that it is of utmost importance to leave a good impression to all guests, whether they return or not in the future. It is about being fair and ethical to your guests. Thank you.
