I've driven by the Original Fish Co in Los Al several times, but I never had the pleasure of dining here until recently. It located on Los Alamitos & Katella.
We started off w/ the fried squid and popcorn shrimp (approx $14/each), and a bottle of the Nielsen pinot noir from Santa Maria. The appetizers were garden variety, and really didn't stand out in terms of size or flavor: 3 Stars. Likewise, the pinot noir was reasonably priced, but the wine list didn't have a whole lot of selection in this category: 3 Stars.
For our entrees, we ordered the chilean sea bass ($39.95 | inc soup or salad, plus 2 sides), fried trout (don't remember the price, but includes the same offerings as all entrees), and the Australian lobster tail special ($39.95 | inc soup or salad & one side).
My friends really liked their meals, esp the clam chowder that is touted as the best. In my case, I liked my caesar salad. However, it only came w/ one anchovy: 3 Stars. On the other hand, the lobster tail was excellent. It was huge and the meat was tender and not overcooked: 5 Stars. The only disappointment on the plate was the noodles, that reminded me of a kids meal. I was expecting garlic noodles similar to a Viet Cajun place: 2 Stars.
Regarding the ambiance, its nice here. There is a small fresh fish market as you enter. You have several dining options from inside, to the bar area, to the outdoor patio. In addition, the menu is expansive & the portions are good sized. The only downside is this place is big, and the restrooms are all the way in the far left: 4 Stars.
Likewise the service from Katrina was excellent. She was super friendly, very attentive and really conscientious. She did a much better job vs the rest of the team, that disappeared towards the end of the meal: 5 Stars.
OFC is a nice neighborhood place that is better vs the chains like Kings & Market Broiler. The food is really good for the most part, the staff is very friendly, and you feel really relaxed here. No wonder it was packed for dinner on a Wed night, and they have been open for 37 years!
