“Lunch in a Conservatory”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

High Hand Nursery not only sells plants, but also pieces of artwork and pottery. On the grounds is a lovely conservatory that entices shoppers and visitors alike to come in and relax while enjoying either brunch on Sunday, dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, and lunch. Twice I have had lunch at the Conservatory - reservations are suggested. The atmosphere is lovely, but it tends to be a bit noisy as the restaurant fills up. The wait staff are very attentive and polite despite the crowds that descend at lunch time filling the restaurant quickly. Both times I have had lunch and a particular favorite is the hand made potato chips, artichoke and lemon dip as an appetizer. Try the Rotisserie Tri Tip Sandwich as it is delicious as well as the pizzas.

“Lovely garden setting but noisy and crowded”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

High Hand Nursery is located about 30 miles northeast of Sacramento in the town of Loomis. The complex includes a retail nursery with many specialty plants such as Japanese maples, garden pottery and decorative items, a group of small shops (candles, art gallery, florist, Persian rugs, wine tasting parlor, and others), and an outdoor restaurant. The restaurant is mainly a luncheon place, but also serves brunch on weekends and dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings. The garden setting, including small waterways and koi ponds, is very lovely. The seating area is covered, shaded, and protected from wind, but friends told us it can be uncomfortable on very hot summer days. The lunch menu includes a nice selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and desserts, and prices are reasonable.

We went for lunch on a midweek day and were not prepared for how busy it was. Fortunately, we had made a reservation--without this, the wait would have been at least an hour. The food was good but not exceptional. Service was friendly and attentive, but very slow due to the crowd. Our main complaint was the noise, including the roar of trains passing on the tracks directly behind the nursery, which made conversation difficult and the meal less than relaxing.

Parking (free) is challenging. There is a small lot adjacent to the restaurant, but this was very inadequate for a crowded day--we found cars strung out all along the busy street for several blocks. If you go for lunch or brunch, go very early or very late if you want to avoid a long walk. Handicap parking is very limited, no more than three or four spaces. All things considered, we were glad we tried High Hand, but will probably not go back.

“Ambiance is like being in a beautiful garden.”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

This place is so lovely. The conservatory where they served the food is so peaceful.
The luncheon menu ranges from $6. - $16.50. Their menu is very extensive with marvelous sandwiches, gourmet salads, and tastey entrees.
It's just a very relaxing place to have lunch.
The dinner ambiance is just as lovely. Great pizzas! Entrees - chicken, fish, steak, shrimp and pasta dishes. $18.50 - $28.00

“I expect a bit more!”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Went to Easter Brunch at High Hand today and was sorely disappointed. The ham on the eggs benedict was deli ham slices and the breakfast potatoes were just french fries sautéed with a bit of onion! Not quite the quality of food I was expecting for the price tag. What brings people back is the tranquility and beauty of the surroundings. It would be lovely to see their culinary skills match the surroundings a bit more! I will still go back to the nursery to shop but will likely find another restaurant in the area to dine. Too bad for the restaurant staff who were very pleasant and attentive.

“Really Pretty Restaurant and Nursery”

This is a huge greenhouse restaurant in one of the loveliest nurseries I've ever seen. Food is good and healthy and the nursery is a must see.
