My Mom and I stayed at the Residence Inn over the weekend of May 3-5. We had a spacious two-bedroom suite. When we got off the freeway, we were a bit confused as to accessing the hotel despite our smartphone navigation. After going through the Queens Mary parking area we finally arrived at our hotel. The picture on the hotel website seems to be more colorful than the building actually was in person. Still, we entered the well manicured grounds and were promptly greeted by an entirely friendly and professional front desk staff. We were quickly checked in and off to our room. The hallways leading up to the room were a bit dirty but as soon as we opened the door to our suite we were very pleased with our spacious and clean room. The shower was spacious and delightful after a long day of travel. The bed was also most comfortable. Breakfast was the standard Residence Inn fair (muffins, waffles, sausage, breakfast potato, oatmeal, yogurt and cereal). All in all we had an entirely enjoyable stay. The hotel is located on the water but it is on the opposite side of the "Long Beach happenings." So you do have to cross a bridge to get to the shops, restaurants, etc. If I were traveling alone, I would definitely opt for the Westin or Hyatt as those two are in the closest proximity to the entertainment, etc. The Residence Inn area feels like a hotel on it's own island, with a big ship on one side (the Queen Mary) and thousands of cargo containers on the other. Still, if traveling with my family of five to visit family in the area, I have a feeling I will be back.
