“Enjoyable Stay / Great Location”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

My husband and I recently visited Long Beach as tourists and could not have been happier with our choice of hotel. We had a wonderful time from check-in (we arrived at noon and our room was ready) to check-out (the front desk staff member asked how our stay was, thanked us for choosing the Hyatt and our bill was correct).

The hotel lobby was open and attractive with many comfortable seating areas - a nice place to relax, read, do computer work or just people watch. Our room had obviously been recently remodeled, was spotless and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was very nice with a large walk-in shower. Unlike several previous reviewers we liked the hand with the apple. It provided a low light if you got up at night. The motion light on the base of the bedside table was great, too, in the dark room. It was obvious that a lot of planning went into the room with the guests in mind. Nearly every staff member went out of their way to greet us.

We ate at Tides restaurant each morning. The buffet was one of the most expansive I have ever seen for breakfast. They had just about everything you could possibly want. It was quite impressive and tasted great. The servers were all very attentive. Our only negative experience with staff came at the Lobby Bar. The bartender bordered on rude and the cocktail waitress was very loud and obnoxious – complaining about everything and everybody. After that experience for the rest of our stay we walked two blocks north to the Renaissance Hotel where they had a fantastic happy hour, very friendly bartenders and a beautiful lighted bar.

The location of the hotel was ideal. We did not have a car and were able to walk to most places and if we weren’t there was a free shuttle bus that goes around downtown Long Beach that stopped in front of the hotel. It could not have been more convenient and came every twelve minutes.

I have never been a big Hyatt fan but I will probably stay at another Hyatt in the future based on this experience. I would highly recommend it.

Staye here for two weeks on business travel. Company payed. Don't know about price performance. Checkin staff were very friendly. Room is very spacious, big windows, big bathrooms and very spacious shower. Big flat screen tv in room.
Spa was closed at time of stay. Ordered room service once (burger, 13$ plus tax plus delivery) and it was quick (15') and tasted good.
Fitness Center is there but rather small for this size of hotel and also provides rather stamina devices, but no other facilities as crunch or chest press.
Location is good. Not far to the beach, cinemas, restaurants closeby, bus station close by, convention Center next door, Center of performing arts closeby etc.

I accompanied my husband to a 2 day meeting in Long Beach, thinking it would be fun & looked forward to seeing California for the first time -how wrong I was , couldn't wait to leave !
Firstly on arrival I was informed that the pool was out of action, great that was one of my ways of spending the time , told I could use the pool at neighbouring Hyatt at the Pike . I did ... but it was inconvenient to have to walk 10 mins across the street... the roof top pool was very nice but after about 30 mins in the sun I needed a drink ! No pool side bar , no water , so I got the elevator down to the lobby and no bar open , pathetic had to leave the hotel to find a vending machine for a drink of water !
Plan B - go shopping .. asked at the front desk where the nearest shops were , was provided with a map & directions ... off I set didn't feel very safe or comfortable , after a 15 min walk arrived at the shops - a grotty Nordstrom rack & a couple of tatty low end shops ..... headed back to hotel and asked again where some decent shops were .. a $90 taxi round trip, no thanks I'll wait till I get back to Scottsdale.
Chatting to another disillusioned " business widow" she suggested I walk to the Shoreline , I did a few tired restaurants & souvenir shops ... like a rundown Isle of Wight / Southend on sea resort, had lunch but not how I'd envisaged California .
Second day , foggy & raining decided to stay in hotel , watching the clock waiting to leave !
Hotel itself Ok but Soul-less. Wont be using HYATT in USA again , second time we've been disappointed

Room Tip: Our room on ground floor was big & nice but noisy from corridor & pneumatic drills fixing th...

This Hyatt is the closest hotel to the Long Beach Convention Center, with an easy walk-way from the second floor. The room was pretty typical, king bed and shower only bathroom, but there was no luxury for the money in the bed linens, towels, pillows, etc. I left a wake- up call for two different days, and the second day, no one called - could have been a disaster. The room was also not sound-proof, I could hear the people on each side raise and lower their window shades. Long Beach has come a long way from an oil town, has a free bus for the surrounding area (restaurants, the Queen Mary, the aquarium) and a restored waterfront, but still a lot of oil rigs and refineries, tankers, oil odor, and so forth.

Room Tip: Floors that are either higher or towards the waterfront have a good view of the shoreline.

Stunning views. Spacious rooms. Great access to jogging trail that wraps around beach, restaurants and direct access to convention center. Was there in October so too cold for the pool, but it was beautiful. Great service - allowed me early check-in for free. Restaurant had great breakfast. ATMs do not work - only complaint!

Room Tip: Face the ocean - duh!

The hotel staff here are some of the friendliest I have ever met. No matter where you are in the hotel each staff member always smiles and says hello to you. The hotel is walking distance to so many attractions and the beach. Would recommend to anyone if need a place to stay.

We stayed here with a group of five. Two adults and three children. We booked several weeks in advance and requested double beds. We arrived very late and they only had kings left. We were not informed just led to believe we were waking up to an acceptable room. Once we entered the room we saw the issue. My husband went back down to solve the "mix up" and was informed they had nothing else. What a miserable night after a full 10hr road trip. They started Construction around 7 am I believe. Which made for a miserable day. The only thing I have to say is the room had a great view! At least I had something to look at all night! The room was switched the next day and they apologized and fixed their mistake. Pool and Spa are CLOSED and that also lowered my experience!
