“Excellent location, value and Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

My friends and I stayed here for a girls trip to the Queen Mary and it was way too short of a trip!

Location perks: walking distance from the downtown nightlife. We did not need a cab really; we walked to the main street and caught a free shuttle to the Queen mary area where tons of restaurants were.

Hotel Amenities and service: very clean and friendly service. The room was just right, spacious and clean.
The elevator was a little slow and their shower was labeled incorrect for the hot and cold options. Other than that no fault with the room. And the workers were friendly and accomodating.

We are definitely staying here again!

We arrived late and check in was fine. We asked for a pool view (didn't want to get stuck with a parking structure view) and got one. We managed just fine in a handicap-accessible unit (room 203).
First, one elevator was out of service. Being on the second floor made this a non-issue. However, if you were on a higher floor, this will be an issue because the other elevator was on island time. It was sloooowww.
As soon as we got out of the elevator, the hallway smelled musty. So did the room. I don't know why. Its not like we were in Hawai'i with lots of rain and humidity.
We had two queen beds in the room, as requested. However, the one next to the balcony literally blocked access to the balcony!
Everything worked in the unit, including the flat screen tv. It was definitely a no frills unit. All the other equipment was very old, including a stained swivel chair for the desk.
The pool was very basic with a spa. The kids were able to enjoy themselves. What was annoying was there were no pool towels available. I had to go into the fitness center to grab what were smaller towels. The next afternoon was the same thing, except there weren't even towels for the fitness center. The wife went to the front desk to notify them. A few minutes later, towels were brought out.
Dining was solid at James Republic. The kids menu was very reasonable ($5 average) and delicious. The food was gourmet for a kids menu. Solid craft brew selection. Need to carry Ballast Point. Very nice vibe/ambiance.
Parking was $12. Tempted to just do street parking, but with the Long Beach Marathon going on this weekend, did the convenient hotel parking.
Definitely would not stay here or at any other Courtyard again. There are many other options. After staying at this property, I cannot trust the Courtyard brand to meet my family's needs. Marriott should have remodeled this property years ago.

This hotel needs TLC. It is not as clean as it should be. the trash was stacked in the hall by the cleaning crew and the air conditioner housing rattled all night long. On the other hand, the front desk was very friendly and the new James River restaurant was great.

Room Tip: corner room with a view of the Queen Mary

I haven't been in Long Beach in many years, so I was not expecting much. I was very pleasantly surprised by the hotel and Long Beach itself. The Courtyard lobby was really nice and appeared to be recently remodeled. Check-in was very friendly and efficient. I had rented 2 rooms and not only were they adjacent, they looked out on the Queen Mary.

The hallways were not updated and the doors to the rooms seem rather industrial rather than belonging to an upscale hotel . But inside the rooms were lovely and offered a small balcony to view the Queen Mary from.

Parking was efficient, but expensive; however not atypical for a downtown hotel with limited street parking.

We stayed 3 nights and the staff was always friendly and asking how our day had been.

The Courtyard is within walking distance of the beach, several attractions, and many restaurants.

We walked many, many blocks and ended up eating at the new restaurant attached to the hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a Queen Mary view. Otherwise you will just look into the buildings surrounding the hotel

We stayed there in August and the location is good. The staff was great and very helpful. Every time we came in at the end of the day they said hi and did remember us. The restaurant is very good. A lot different than other Courtyards we've stayed at. Our only comment is that the rooms do need updating. Our room on the 8th floor did not look like the pictures on this site. It was nice but quite warn.

Picked this hotel because of its location. Upon checking in the front desk was friendly and helpful. I had rented two rooms and the front desk was able to get us next to each other on the same floor. Parking was acceptable with a sliding key card to enter the parking structure on sight.

The room was ok, nothing special but acceptable. The problem was with the bedding. The bed pillows had hair on them and when we pulled the sheets back there was hair there also. I called the front desk and asked them to correct the problem. They were apologetic and said they would send someone straight away. When room service arrived the made began arguing with us stated that the room was cleaned. She said it must be our hair, I explained we just checked into the room and hadn't touch the bed except to discover the visible hair on the pillows and sheets which I showed her. She was very disrespectful and only changed the pillow cases. The supervisor came in and at our insistence changed the bedding. For a Marriott I was very surprised by the cleaning staffs attitude. We were in room 715.

Hotel is in a good location, ten minute walk to the beach which is huge and not very busy. Parking easy and onsite. Accommodation high standard, bathroom was the best of the 8 hotels we stayed in during our USA trip!
