“Great location, superb staff”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

The location of this hotel was great, in the heart of the "cool" part of downtown. I stayed here last weekend while visiting friends. The front desk staff was great, everyone I came into contact with was always smiling and ready to help. I definitely recommend this hotel when looking for reasonably priced hotels in the downtown area!

We have stayed at this hotel over the last 4 years when we go to the Long Beach Motorcylce show. It is close to the location of the show and easy to find. It is clean but this time I noticed that the rooms are getting "tired". The wall paper is peeling, the bathroom feels outdated. Everything works ok, just seems like it need a bit of a spruce up. It was reasonably priced for what you get. We did eat breakfast and that was ok.

First the good stuff: the staff was great. Friendly, attentive and welcoming. The location is also great. You can walk anywhere and they even provide bikes (which left much to be desired - but they were free). Now the bad. We stayed in a number of rooms, trying to find one that was comfortable. None were good. The hotel is really noisy. Street traffic comes through the old windows. You can here every conversation 5 to 8 floors below. The elevators are noisy too. The mattresses are horrible. Worn out foam provided no support, left me tossing and turning and with a back and headache. The linens were either too worn or did not fit properly. They bunched up - maybe due to excessive tossing and turning. Only some of the AC units work correctly. The carpet was dirty. There were stains all over and mold in the corners and under the AC units. The intenet was terrible. Service kept dropping off repeatedly. And the bikes, while nice toi have available, were in poor repair. We had a flat that had to be fixed due to a worn tire and a broken seat. In retrospect, we should have rented nicer working bikes at the bike station down the street. Next time we will stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: None are really good, but stay away from the elevators and the rooms with a view.

I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott for four nights in October and had a terrific stay. We were staying for a meeting held at the Long Beach Convention Center. It was about a. 10-15 minute walk, which I felt was safe, even when walking at night (although I never walked alone very late). One of the nice things is that there are two large canisters of ice water in the lobby, one flavored with frest cucumber, the other with orange. We couldn't walk by without grabbing a glass it was so refreshing. The staff was extremely nice and helpful, the room clean and comfortable. There was a small balcony, but it wasn't large enough to sit inane there wasn't a great view, so it went unused.

They have a breakfast buffet for $13 but we went to a crepery down the street. The bar was small but staffed by the nicest of nice bartenders. We only had beer and popcorn,, but the smell of the popcorn lured us in(not the best popcorn, but met the salty crunchy food group we we're craving).

The fitness room is small with treadmills and elipticals and free hand weights. Nothing exciting. There is also a heated outdoor pool. I had a nice swim early one morning. The pool is small, but i just swam many very short laps. Would have been repeated, but I adjusted to sleeping in quickly.

Had a meeting in the convention center and chose to stay at the Courtyard by Marriott. Easy walk to Convention Center and hotel is in the heart of the garden art area. Nice funky little restaurants and shops in the area.

Very nice overnite stay. Good location for attractions and restraunts. Friendly staff eager to help with directions and recommendations. Rooms are available that have views of Queen Mary. Breakfast was excellent and included in our room rate. The free Passport Shuttle is great way to get around and is close by. Rooms are clean and quiet. We normally stay at the Hyatt but rates at the Marriot were much more reasonable. We would not hesitate to return to the Marriot. We had a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a Queen Mary view room.

I haven't written a review before, but after this experience I felt the need to share.

The room we were given was pretty disgusting. Red/Pink stains all over the carpet, the sides of the dressers had some sort of stains or spill marks, and the mattress had some large yellowish/brownish stain all along the side.

Overall the staff were friendly and the location was convenient, regardless, I wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before committing to it.
