“Reserved a table for UFC night.”
Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

We arrived early for our reservation as the event began an hour before our table would be Ready. We checked in and asked if we could be seated early if a table became available. The place was packed, so we wandered arounf for a little bit until they say us down early. Throughout all of the the staff was very friendly. So far so good. All the food being served around looked really good and big portioned. We ordered nachos to split. The menu said they come with a lot of different toppings. I'm not going to complain about how long our food took because the place was really busy. But our nachos were really small. Litterally less than 20 chips. Not only that, all they has on them were half of the stated toppings. Lastly they cost double the amount that I'd be comfortable with at a regular place. Overall it was an enjoyable experience, we just wished our order was bigger... sporting event sized!

“Good for dinner and a concert”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

I have been here several times since they opened way back when, but the last time was years ago and had never been here for dinner.

We were brought in on a Groupon that included a well drink, an appetizer, and two meals. We called to make a reservation on a Saturday night and was told that a Journey cover band playing at 7:00pm and that there was a $20 cover charge. At first, we will a little annoyed since we were just looking to have dinner and that would shouldn't have to pay a cover.

When we arrived, we had a drink at the bar. A Kettle One Martini will put you back over $10. The restaurant was only about 40% full and they let us pick our seats back further from the stage. With the Groupon you were allowed a certain price point, but if you ordered a more premium item, you just paid the difference.

The service and food was good. I went with the special which was a glazed salmon and my wife had one of the pasta dishes which was much better than expected. This is because in all the years that Gaslamp has been open, I have never heard great things about the food.

The Journey cover band was pretty good. We saw the real Journey last year and I would say this band was better.

So in the end, we had a good time and worth paying the extra $20. However, if you are looking for a quite dinner, this is not the place.

“Good potential for good food”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

The atmosphere was very trendy, but way too dark for dinner. I like to see what I am eating LOL The food was just okay. We ordered the grilled chicken salad which boasted avacado and corn (there were only a few bits and pieces in the salad). The only good dish was the calamari for the appetizer. This place is supposed to be really great for bands but we did not stay. The restaurant reminded me of an old theatre..it has potential but the prices are a bit much for the quality of food.

“Bad idea”
Reviewed April 21, 2012

Cold food, bad service, and when you're unhappy with the service the manager offers to get you a new waitress. What a joke, it's a wonder this place stays open.

“Average Food, Very Dark”
Reviewed March 18, 2012

The restaurant is really a bar, and has the smell of spilled beer. We tried the trio of tacos, they were OK, nothing special. Not sure we would go back..
