“Great Indian Food”
Reviewed April 24, 2009

The Chicken Tikka Masala is sooo good, and the rice as well. Wine is a little over priced but so good with the chicken!

“Don't Miss the Best Masala in L.A.!”
Reviewed April 13, 2009

For being in such a trendy and largely upscale neighborhood of Long Beach, Natraj isn't finicky or fussy when it comes to decor or ambience. However, what Natraj lacks in atmosphere it makes up for in consistently delicious dishes. By far our favorite is the chicken tiki masala, in which large succulent chunks of tender white breast meat soak up the rich and wonderful flavor of Bubbly's family masala recipe.

Relatedly, the chiken tikka (the same tender pieces of chicken, only this time served with seared onions and bell peppers, Indian BBQ style) is the perfect dish for those who are watching their fat or carbohydrate intake.

As far as entrees go, we normally must order these two chicken dishes, and are reluctant to try anything else. Once in a while I get lamb curry, or lamb vindaloo. I prefer the curry, but sometimes am craving vindaloo. If you order the lamb curry extra spicy, sometimes you bite into a cardamom pod, but I actually enjoy that.

I know so many are curious as to whether a dish will be too spicy, or give them indigestion. If you ask for a dish mild, it will be mild, but not bland. On the other hand, if you are anything like us, we live for spicy food, and when you ask for something spicy, you must reassure them that you can handle it, and you better be sure that you really do want spicy food. But don't be alarmed, mild means mild.

As for side dishes, I love their aloo gobi, and am now ordering it with cauliflower (gobi) only, as it is the real star of this tomato based dish. I also like the mushroom mattar, mushrooms and peas in a fragrant sauce. The lentil soup is fantastic, infused with loads of flavor. You must order a 22oz. Taj Mahal lager to go with your meal, as well as the garlic naan. We don't often order their chai, but when we do it is always perfect.

The lunch buffet is OK, but I prefer to eat dinner here. They are open until 10pm on most nights, so sometimes we order late takeout. When I have family over to my condo in Long Beach, at some point they will ask, when are we ordering Natraj?

We love other, fancier Indian restaurants in the southland, like Akbar in Pasadena, but we crave Natraj enough to eat it twice, sometimes three times a week. You'll be hooked.

“Great”
Reviewed February 10, 2009

Food is very good and service is great. I have taken many people here visiting from LA and NYC and they all love it. A fairly extensive indian menu and the price is very reasonable. More poeple are figuring this out as it has become quite a bit more crowded.
