“Outstanding experience, will be coming back soon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

Stayed here for my wedding (off-location wedding) and the accommodations were outstanding. The bargain rate room I booked for pre-wedding was huge, spacious, great view. The room for after we were married was equally as amazing, but an even better view.
The staff were outstanding through and through. With another wedding happening on-site, they were at full capacity and still managed to make my guests feel special, everyone was saying how great the hotel was, and parking was never an issue. My wife checked in with Aubrey, and myself at a different time with Andrew. Both of us felt that they were incredibly welcoming and helpful. I had forgotten to book a late check-out and had a problem because of the other wedding and the number of guests. The following morning I spoke with Vesela and she very easily made an adjustment and got me the late check-out.
With the amount of people celebrating, there were bound to be some unruly guests who celebrated a bit too hard, and noise issues were handled swiftly by the security staff, ensuring we had a peaceful stay.
My wife told me that when she was preparing and getting in her wedding dress, there were issues encountered with insufficient towels for the sheer volume of people showering, getting ready in her room (way more than common) or helping her get ready. Additionally, certain necessities ran out because of how many people. Housekeeping was notified and showed up almost as the phone was hung up to ensure everything was up to par with no further problems.
The restaurant on site, Fuego, has an incredible menu. I highly recommend sitting on the patio because the view is a huge plus. Their dinner was outstanding, with out waiter Kelly being very helpful and understanding of the larger party. We didn't feel rushed at all, and the drinks were great (tequila drinkers will LOVE this place). Their breakfast is reasonably priced, and offers a mix of off-the-menu food and a buffet. I am told the breakfast burrito was very tasty, and I wish I had ordered it, but the buffet had a lot of great food, including very tasty bacon. I loves me some bacon!
The only slight deterrent is the location, it can be hard to find and the area itself is nestled in the Long Beach harbor shipping docks, walking distance from a port for cruise ships and the Queen Mary. Traffic was never an issue, with the only negative thing heard being "it was hard to find" but once you get there, however, you will never want to leave, also the next thing my guests told me.
Obviously this place holds a special importance to me and I'll be revisiting it, but even the special occasion aside, I have higher standards than most for service, and get ticked off easily by bad service or cut corners. That never once was the case, and I'd eagerly recommend it to anyone visiting.

Room Tip: There is no bad room, plain and simple. Book any room with total confidence, however I recommend one...

Congratulations first and thank you second for a great review and comments. I will pass them on to the staff. Rarely does someone take the time to comment so much in detail when they had a great stay and as you are aware, people are quick to comment on bad stays. We really appreciate it and are so glad you had a great wedding weekend! We hope to see you back here again soon!

The staff are a credit and this a lovely location, though a little isolated for the downtown area and other amenities. The river taxi is good and only $1 per trip across to the town, but didn`t always turn up and limited running times.

The rooms were large with great views but not the cleanest (a thick layer of dust on some items) and a little drab. The air conditioner is unbelievably noisy and very old, but does work.

This may have been the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, but this is not a $300 a night hotel, it may be worth half that at a push….

Thank you for your comments and am glad you enjoyed all but the price. The water taxi is fun for sure and our beds are super comfortable. The price like most things is all about supply and demand. As we sell out almost every night in July and most of August, prices are at a premium. We are the only waterfront resort style hotel in Long beach as well. If you are looking for a discounted stay here, off peak is a much better time to come. We hope to see you again.

Excellent location if you're leaving on a cruise since the terminal is right down the street. Although there are four separate five story buildings on the property it's clean and has beautiful views of the harbor and cruise port. The pool is at the far south side of the hotel which is quiet a walk but I guess it would be about the same if you stayed at the Convention center property.

My family spent 3 days at this hotel and not only were there lots of activities at the hotel but near the hotel that we participated in. The décor and the surroundings were excellent and we enjoyed them. We have stayed here before and we will stay again. If you come here try to enjoy the hotel and its surroundings.

We absolutely loved this hotel. The room, staff, grounds and restaurant were all amazing! We were given warm cookies upon arrival and the check-in process was very fast. Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet. We will definitely be going back to visit Hotel Maya again.

We got this stay on points. Definitely ask for a water view, as it is beautiful and if you're lucky like us, a seal will come to take a rest on the pier in the harbor, which our room overlooked. The service staff were exceptionally polite and nice. The pool is great and the cabanas, although pricey, are very enjoyable. Be warned, margaritas are 15 bucks and there's a lot of ice in them, although the bartender and wait staff are very nice. The beach with firepits is really nice. The man who lights the firepits is a really nice guy.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view!

We are so happy you loved it. We love when people enjoy the Maya the way it should be, laying out by our waterfront pool sipping maragritas watching our resident seal play around the harbor. Hope to see you again soon!

Our feedback eventually found its way to the hotel's General Manager, Kristi Allen, who invited us back for another visit at a discounted rate and kindly honored the invitation more than a year later. We saw a couple of rooms, one over the restaurant, another facing the city across a narrow channel with a view of the bridge, eventually settling into a room with a view of the open water and the Queen Mary. Had a very relaxing and enjoyable visit and count ourselves fans, once again, of this property for a convenient and pleasant local getaway.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get a room on an upper floor facing the Queen Mary side.
