It was our turn to host 2 very good friends for dinner. We decided to go to Long Beach take in some art and then dinner on a Sunday. Based on ratings we picked Michael's and made a 5:30 PM reservation. We arrived at 5:20 and they were not seating until 5:30 so we went upstairs to the bar. Very comfortable and we each ordered a drink. The only negative in our 3 hour dining experience was both at the bar and dining and that was serving delays. The bartender seemed to disappear and it took sometime before we were served our drinks. We were then seated downstairs (quieter) for dinner. Even with delays the staff were all friendly and upbeat. Our dinner server was very knowledgable about the menu and that helped make this a great dining experience. We shared 9 items and loved them all. This included 4 smaller dishes such as a great grilled octopus, mushrooms on Brioche with a duck egg, mussels and clams, a beet salad and as main courses duck and pasta Puttanesca. We enjoyed a bottle of Justin red blend and shared 3 outstanding deserts. Around 7 the place was full on a Sunday night! Everything including the plating was elegant. Even with gaps in service this is a repeat. Be alerted it is not inexpensive. The duck dish was $34 the small plates were $16 to $18 and the wine was $125. The four of us thought it was worth it!
