This was the first day of a 1600 mile road trip starting at Las Vegas. We drove through Death Valley and when we finally arrived at Dow Villa and Lone Pine we were amazed. It was a tiny place in the middle of the desert but it had so much charisma we loved it. Lone Pine itself has a film museum which we visited and was really good. It also has lots of little quaint shops and restaurants. The motel itself is clean and the room was big and gorgeous. The staff were really friendly wanting to make sure everything was OK. We then ventured for the evening meal and found the most brilliant little USA diner called Mount Whitney. The food was gorgeous and it was good value for money. We even got friendly with the manager who we now have as a friend on facebook :). But back to the motel we decided to sit around the pool which was open 24 hours. It was a gorgeous evening and we had a drink overlooking the pool. We then realised the hot tub was open and went to get changed. We had an amazing chill overlooking the mountains and stars and chatting to other hotel guests who were using the hot tub - really good experience. The next morning we went over the road to McDonalds for a typical USA type breakfast with pancakes and syrup and before anyone says anything about McDonalds which I normally hate - this was amazing with windows overlooking the mountains - best McDonalds I have ever been too. The funniest bit of our stay in Lone Pine was the supermarket. I was in my element looking at all the aisles and my hubby was obviously bored - I suddenly heard an American voice over the tannoy asking where I was - ha ha - I had only been gone 10 minutes. Hubby had made an acquaintance of the checkout lady and she obliged by paging me - that was the whole experience of Lone Pine - very friendly likeable people - will definitely go back

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room but from what I could see all rooms were of good size and clean and excel...

We only stayed here one night on route to Yosemite from Vegas. Wish we had stayed for two. Lovely room. Nice pool and hot tub. Great little town with lots of places to eat and drink. Amazing views and a lovely cinema museum nearby.

Room Tip: All good no worries.

This property is a motel and hotel. We stayed in the "historic" hotel which equates to old! The room was clean but lacked AC, a fan, Kleenex, wash clothes, coffee pot to name a few. It had an old relic tv with bad reception and the room was small with windows on 2 sides looking into a court yard and mechanical stuff - on the MAIN floor. Curtains needed to be kept shut! Our friends were in the motel and it was really nice. Very updated and roomy.

nice size room, although there was a slight unidentified smell. nice mattress. air conditioner did not cool room and noise was loud. internet and cable did not work for several hours one evening. Hot tub was great - however, one night water was murky. Maid did not clean room one day even though we had request on door. had good coffee in room. Lone Pine is a cute town and the motel was in a great location.

My friend and I had just finished thru hiking the John Muir Trail and the Dow Villa was our first motel stay in 18 days. We arrived before check in time but the front desk clerks, Benjamin and Genesse gave us towels, soap and shampoo and directed us to showers we could us until our room was ready. They also offered us coffee and pool towels so we could relax until our room was available. They were both so kind, friendly and helpful and when our room was ready, it was very clean and included coffee service, fridge and microwave. After camping for 18 days, this motel and personnel were like an oasis of heaven. Thank you!!

We have been traveling US 395 in the Eastern Sierra for 20 years and have spent most of those visits at the Dow Villa. We visited most recently Labor Day Weekend 2013.

There are two parts to the Dow Villa; the original 2-story hotel building (1920s) and motel-style modern rooms. We have stayed in both and find the hotel building to be very charming but be sure you get a room with your own bathroom. The Dow has completed? a renovation of the original building. I am not certain all rooms have been renovated, you may want to ask.

Do be warned that the historic building rooms do not have individual temperature controls for air conditioning. We were there on a really hot weekend and the room was too warm. You can ask for a fan, but they are limited. I have stayed there in the winter and found the rooms to be comfortable.

The modern motel rooms do have individual air conditioning/heating controls.

All that said for us the Dow Villa is our favorite place to stay on the 395. Employees have always been pleasant and cheery. The place has a charm to it that we enjoy.

Room Tip: You can save money by getting a room without a bathroom. The shared bathrooms are adequate, but onl...

Stayed at the Dow Villa Hotel (not the motel) which is a good location if you're passing through from Death Valley. The hotel is quirky and unique! Staff are really helpful. Although the hotel is dated and can sometimes have an odd smell in the corridors, they seem to pride themselves on the numerous references to John Wayne and the cowboys of the old westerns. The lounge area in the reception is friendly and you can get connected to wifi, and indeed charge your devices, you can also help yourself to complimentary coffee. One downside is the air conditioning is not controllable in your room so we had quite a strong draft blowing on us all night and the rooms were very noisy due to deliveries and a busy road just outside.

Room Tip: The room was noisy and the air conditioning was blowing a gale right onto the bed, so ask for a quie...
