It is not what you eat here (high desert); rather it is where you are - at the base of the highest Mountain in the 48 states. I have clumb it oncet. Whew. There is a road that zig-zags up the face of the Sierra Eastern Slope - you might not enjoy it. Once up there, the air is pretty rare. For dinner, there is relief, one of the best steak houses in ___________ (fill in the blank).

Worst dinner a diner could put together. Roast Beef was tough, gravy straight out of a can and mashed potatoes out of a box, wife's patty meld was tasteless. The waitress substituted the wine on our order with wine that was twice as much without telling us and expected the higher price. When we complained they told us in a very snippy mood that they did not have what we ordered. Rather than telling us up front and we could have picked something else they chose to be rude and then indicated they did not care if we ever returned when we checked out. I will never go back even if they did have the best burger in town the patty melt had a beef patty that was frozen and then cooked to death) but I am sure they made up the best burger part after eating there.

When you have a sign trumpeting "Best Burger in Town" you'd better back it up. The burger here is okay, but I doubt it's the best in any town, even in little Lone Pine. The fries, as another reviewer mentioned, are great. The waitress service is a bit indifferent - although the busman was really helpful and friendly after the waitress disappeared - and the price is about what you'd expect for a busy highway place that caters to tourists on the way to and from the ski resorts. The star of this place is great parking and a cool Old West/Hollywood vibe inside where the walls are lined with photos and such from the numerous actors and cowboys who used to make movies up here.

We stopped in for breakfast on the day after Christmas. The restraunt was busy but our food came in a reasonable amount of time. Sandi had ham & eggs and I had the chiken fried steak. The steak comes with the gravy on the side so I tried it without but quickly decided that it would be better with. The biscuits & gravy came with a single large biscuit but it was very adequate and tasty. Lone Pine is an historic Western movie town and the walls are decorated with all sorts of memorabilia.
