“Okay place to kill time in Lompoc.”
Reviewed July 2, 2011

I confess I am baffled by the rave reviews. It's an okay place to kill time on your day off in Lompoc, but really nothing special. A nice visitor's center, where they have spent a lot of money showing how the mission was restored during the Depression. More interesting than walking from dollar store to dollar store to Walmart in Lompoc if you've got nothing better to do, but I recommend driving to Jalama beach or Solvang or Hearst Castle instead. Not much to see here.

“A Must See. Only 15 minutes off 101”
Reviewed June 20, 2010

You HAVE to see this Mission. It is a California park so kudos to Cali for preserving it the way they have. Entrance is $6 per car. Well worth it.

The grounds are HUGE. Be prepared to walk. Explore the grounds because there are buildings hidden everywhere. And spend some time at the visitor center which tells the entire history of the site. It is very interesting.

The Mission was well preserved and standing amongst it is eerie. You can actually feel the history surrounding you. We loved the Mission.

“Worth a visit!”
Reviewed October 4, 2009

This mission is a little off the beaten path but worth the visit. Since it's not an active parish it was a little more open for exploring than the other two missions we visited and we were able to explore the grounds and buildings freely. The mission is beautiful and provides a good glimpse of the California mission history. La Purisima used to provide for over 800 people and if you use your imagination you can just imagine the lives that were lived here.

“Nice historical visit”
Reviewed June 25, 2009

My wife and I spent 2 hours at this site after spending $4 parking lot entrance fee. The new visitor center contains very nice displays as well as an on-going TV film about the mission. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The self-guided tour of the grounds and restored buildings was also interesting.
