My daughter and I stayed at this motel for only one night. I booked a reservation in advance. We arrived at the motel around 8:30 pm. It looked nice both from the exterior and the lobby. It is a newer building. The motel clerk (Indian national) who checked us in spoke with a heavy accent and was a bit hard to understand. He was all business, charged my credit card and said hardly a word. We went to our room and opened the door. I wasn't expecting a luxury room, just something clean and comfortable. It stunk, I mean literally. There was a foul order like you couldn't imagine. On top of that odor, the cleaning person had sprayed some sort of air fragrance that made the air almost un-breathable. It was late, my daughter and I still hadn't had dinner, so I figured I would just turn the air conditioning to fan and open the window. The air conditioning didn't work right and it started throwing even a nastier smell into the room. I shut it off and opened the window. There was no screens on the window, but at that point I really didn't care. Fortunately the wind was blowing pretty strong. We left and got something to eat.
When we returned the room was a little better, but still smelled. We left the window open until we went to bed. The next morning it was again almost unbearable.
Room cleanliness left a bit to be desired. There was fingerprints and smudges on the nightstands and dressers. The floor had not been vacuumed well. There were a little bits of lint and debris on the carpet. The microwave was dirty. The ice bucket bag looked like it had been used. The bathroom appeared clean enough in the bright light, but after seeing the dust, fingerprints and smudges on the bedroom furniture, I decided to take no chances. I wiped down the counter and toilet with disinfecting wipes. The toilet had not be sanitized.
The TV worked OK, but you only had like 5 stations. The bed was comfortable enough, but I kept wondering if the sheets had been previously laundered.
Restaurants are not nearby. There are only fast food places. The motel isn't really in Lodi, so for a real meal you will have to drive. The free breakfast consisted of frozen waffles, toast, cereal, milk, juice and coffee.
I wasn't expecting a 4 or 5 star hotel, just a clean comfortable room where the few amenities worked. When people make a reservation, is it really to much to ask for the manager to check out the room before the guests arrive? The place wasn't busy. Is it to much to expect clean floors,tables/appliances and an air conditioning unit that works? Maybe some breathable air? Microtel Inns are privately owned. So as with most service related businesses the end result depends on the management. This motel needs better management.
