The Purple Orchid Wine Country & Spa
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 17, 2013

I stay at the Purple Orchid Inn whenever I travel to Livermore on business. This is a wonderful little hotel in the middle of the Livermore wine country. It is great because it's close to our office and only a short drive from downtown Livermore. You have a feeling of being secluded, but it's close enough to everything you could possibly need. The resort backs up to an olive orchard and a very nice pool area. In the morning, it's so nice because it's very quiet. There's less than 10 rooms, and each one is individually named. The rooms are very nicely appointed with fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs in the bathrooms. The hotel offers a breakfast, although since we have to leave early to get to work, they set out a continental breakfast for us each morning, which is very nice. The owners are incredibly accommodating and have always gone out of their way to make our stays comfortable. I only wish I could go back for a personal trip so that I could hang out and truly relax. The Purple Orchid Inn is a beautiful place to stay and a must if you are visiting or stopping in Livermore.

Room Tip: Grand Champion is a nice room. There is also a beautiful room on the first floor that has a private...

We just stayed there this past Memorial weekend and we absolutely loved it! Our room was very clean, quaint and had an old world charm to it with modern amenities! The breakfast was delicious on both days and was delivered to our room at the exact time we had requested it for! Not a minute later! The grounds are just gorgeous and it's far enough away from the main road that we weren't bothered with the sound of cars zooming by. It was so very tranquil and serene. The staff was very accomodating & attentive and everyone was very courteous and helpful! The small touches throughout this place made it romantic and perfect! We will definitely return soon!

Room Tip: Rooms not over the kitchen are quieter.

This place is a delight! We flew out to CA to catch up with a short list of wineries we liked in the Livermore wine region and Napa. We chose to stay here for the Livermore portion and it made us wonder why we didn't skip the Napa part. Also, we wanted a geographically convenient venue to catch up with friends coming over from Reno.

So on the first night we were there, it was just the four of us and a delightful third couple who was there for the spa services (they raved about it!) and the wineries. It was a small group for the wine tasting which featured a local red and a local white (different selection each night). The host couple joined us and shared their great local knowledge. All of this is classy but low key. Day two began with breakfast brought out to an umbrella shaded table by the solar-heated pool. The hosts packed us a wonderful sandwich bag lunch that we took to a [secret] picnic table at a [secret] local winery that we had discovered on a prior visit to the region. After our afternoon visits, we returned to the inn for a different selection of local wines accompanied by bread, cheese, and the olive oil pressed from the olive tree grove at the inn. It doesn't get more local than that.

The rooms were great. The views from the pool area and all the rooms are spectacular. Within a 15 minute drive there are a few dozen truly excellent wineries along with the outstanding Greg Norman golf course at Wente which magically accommodates both the accomplished and modest golfer. Livermore really is a civilized alternative to Napa.

The inn claims to be world class. Is it? It's definitely up there. There is a lot to like.

As mentioned elsewhere, this place was featured in a Hotel Impossible episode (I downloaded and viewed the episode on iTunes after our visit) which focused on the new owners establishing the inn as a spa and wedding/celebration destination. We have no doubt it will succeed wildly at this. We're thinking it would also make a great buy-out-the-house family reunion venue.

Room Tip: We stayed in Wilderness and was great with a walk out balcony with a great view to the west across t...

Let owners Derek and Rhiannon pamper you with an amazing wine country getaway that is smack at the edge of Livermore's most beautiful winegrowing region. You are surrounded by gorgeous blonde hills, covered with olive orchards, and rose bushes with blooms the size of dinner plates. The tranquil pool has a soothing waterfall, and two beckoning jacuzzi tubs, lined with smooth, relaxing stones. They will spoil you with a great selection of Livermore wines by the bottle or glass, delicious cheese and olive trays, and the breakfasts will have you waking up early. So many winetasting and dining options are within a few minutes drive, that you will want to make this your base of operations for exploring the region. The microfiber linens are soft and luxurious and the evening breezes will sing you to sleep, perhaps with a distant chorus of coyotes. This is a romantic and delightful place, with a full suite of spa services, and attention to detail.

My husband, daughter and I just spent a wonderful three days at the Purple Orchid! The countryside surrounding this bed and breakfast is exquisite. This time of year it is green and gorgeous. We were all looking for restorative relaxation and we found it. My adult daughter and I had facials and massage therapy, both of which were out of this world. My husband played golf at two nearby golf courses and he loved that! We had a gourmet dinner at the Wente winery and played bocce ball at an Italian restaurant on another night. The owners of the Purple Orchid are welcoming and attend closely to every detail of the guest's comfort. We plan to take advantage of the fun, relaxation and hospitality there again soon.

My husband and I just returned from the most relaxing and romantic weekend at the Purple Orchid Inn. This resort is a hidden jewel in the Livermore Valley Wine Country! Shortly after checking in, we were personally welcomed by owner, Rhiannon, at our suite with a lovely fruit bowl, a breakfast menu for in-suite dinning and a personal invitation to their afternoon wine and appetizer social in the main lodge. We ended up staying for 3 nights and went to the Valentine's Winemaker dinner they hosted Saturday night which was impeccable! I was truly impressed with owner Derek's knowledge of wine. I was looking for wineries with delicious full bodied REDS and the wineries he recommend were spot-on. We will definitely be back. I understand the new owners are working on putting a concert series together. If it's anything like what they've done so far, it should be phenomenal!!!

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with any room. They are all beautifully decorated and unique!
