“Nice place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

Dennens is a nice place. It is about a 5 minute drive out of town, which isnt too far - but knowing I had to drive even a couple of miles put a small dent in the evening. This is wine country, after all... If you are looking for a fancy B&B with big ocean views like you see in the movies this probably isn't your place, but if you want a simple, quiet place with good service and a very good breakfast, this could be the place.

We wanted to experience California north of the bay and this was it. Absolutely amazing countryside and the drive over on 128 from 101 through the Redwoods actually brought tears to my eyes. Dennen's is a good base of operations. We stayed in the Dennen Suite and it was very cozy...a little musty, but cozy. The breakfasts were outstanding and delivered promptly and very pleasantly. Jo, the owner, knows her business and has perfected the most desirable blend of friendliness, helpfulness, yet our stay felt completely private. The rooms reminded me a bit of the Irish B&B's I've stayed in - completely cozy, if not Martha Stewart perfect. The beautiful gardens and Allen's hummingbirds were wonderful, but not as wonderful as our own pet 10 inch banana slug on our deck - an indigenous creature not seen in other areas of the country. Oh, the breakfast fare was tasty and perfectly plated. I would definitely return, and hope to again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main house, but the little rooms with chimneys looked great.

My husband and I wanted to take a trip up from San Francisco and do some wine tasting in Holpland on the way. We have been to Little River many times but never stayed at this place. All we can say is it has an absolutely, lovely and peaceful atmosphere!!! The owners of the business were very warm and welcoming. They knew what we wanted and they were right to make us feel as comfortable as possible.
We stayed in a suite with a huge tub and bubble bath and candles. Need I say more? The fireplace was cozy and the bed was so warm and cuddly.....they had an electric blanket on it as well. Ee never wanted to get out of bed, that is until we smelled the breakfast. They didn't forget anything when they designed this room with their guests in mind!!!
Breakfast was hot and so deliciously fresh!!! Delivered right to our room. We sat and had a wonderful breakfast as we watched the hummingbirds gather around the heather outside our window.
It's so quiet and you never even realize that there are other guests around. Beautiful well kept gardens.
We are definitely going back again and again and again.......what a peaceful place!!

What a great place. Personal service without being intrusive. Pre ordered a massage and the massage therapist was there when we arrived, friendly and professional. The room was tastefully decorated and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, fresh fruit, scone and quiche and plenty of it. Had coffee on the deck overlooking the yard and creek. We were in the Mendocino suite with a huge tub, huge, big enough to swim in, big enough for two. We enjoyed it so much already made reservations to go back in January for the Crab and Wine festival.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights while traveling through the Mendocino area and loved the rejuvenating and relaxing stay! This is a beautiful old B&B that has much history but has been renovated to provide luxury and enjoyment today. We stayed in the Daisy room, which was beautifully appointed with a down-topped Queen mattress and a wood-burning stove with wood provided. I don't think we've ever slept so well. The view, star-gazing, and location were perfect. Jo, the proprietor, was very patient, even as we arrived well after 11pm (unexpectedly) our first night, and set us up with regard for our needs, even though we kept her up quite late. Breakfast was delicious and gourmet, delivered right to our doorstep each morning! In all aspects this was a lovely stay. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: All the rooms appeared to be unique and lovely in each their own way.

Joe and Fred go out of their way to make your stay memorable, fun and relaxing. The rooms/cotttages are lovely. The breakfast is amazing and the location, although not on the ocean is beautiful, and right across the street. Joe is more than helpful with the best restaurants and other activities, needs. What more could you want?

This is a nice place to stay, however be aware of a few things. There is NOT an outstanding view of the ocean. You have a slight peek of the ocean, but that is all. The gardens are NOT a natural paradise. Remember that two acres is not very much land to walk about and there is no view of the ocean (which is quite a distance away) while walking about the gardens. Having said that, this B & B is a pleasant place to stay. The bed was comfortable and the breakfasts that were delivered to the room were quite nice. They were not "gourmet" meals, but enjoyable and a nice way to start the day.
Be prepared to be bombarded with rules of the house, but after you get through all of that, you will enjoy your stay. It is an easy drive to Mendocino and also to the Stanford Inn and Little River Inn where you should enjoy some meals and you will not be disappointed. Also do try the Little River Market and Deli. Who would expect such a wonderful find in this little town?
If you go to this area often, then yes, put the Victorian Farmhouse on your list of places to stay (once) and then try some of the other beautiful places in Little River, Albion and Mendocino which are even better. If this is a once in a life time trip to Mendocino - find another place - nearer the ocean with a better view.
