“This is heaven overlooking the ocean.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

I'm sitting on our front deck in room 112 overlooking the ocean, smelling our wood burning fire, and taking in the gorgeous flowers blooming directly in front of me. This is a wonderful piece of heaven. The location of the Little River Inn is very convenient to many beaches in the area and just a hop skip to Mendocino. We ate dinner here one night of our stay and it was very good as well. The bar has a fabulous view, well worth taking the time for a drink or two.
The Inn is very pet friendly, we brought our four legged family member and he enjoyed his stay as well. While in the area, we highly recommend you take in the botanical gardens in Ft. Bragg and dinner at Stevenswood just up the road. Our little two night, three day excursion to the coast has been a real treat. We may have to come back every year just to soak it all in one more time.
Almost forgot to mention the great Deli Market directly across the street. Good wine selections, excellent deli, super duper breakfast burritos and you won't believe the view in their eating area in the back of the store. Don't miss this one.
Enjoy!

Room Tip: Room 112 is terrific, on the end with great view.

For what we were paying, our room left a lot to be desired. It was basic and clean but room was old, beds were lumpy and not very comfortable and bathroom felt like a motel bathroom. That being said, we loved the staff who were warm and friendly and we loved our breakfast and dinner experiences. Food at the inn is excellent. Yes, this was ocean view...however, it's definitely not oceanfront. Our room's view was of lawn, then highway, then parking lot and then ocean. It was pretty...but we expected more. We paid over $200/nt and had an overall good experience, but we would probably try another place the next time we are in gorgeous, breathtaking Mendocino.

I would rate this inn at 3 1/2 stars at good (better than average)...not very good. If they would upgrade the rooms, it would be excellent.

Room Tip: I would choose a higher level room and not the most expensive rooms...views may be nicer and you'...

My husband and I spent only two nights at the Little River Inn, but we plan to return again soon. We stayed in the Traditional Oceanview building on the upper floor. From the room's lovely deck, the view was wonderful. If we weren't watching the kayakers and abalone divers in the beautiful cove below our room, we were reading and sipping wine. The king-sized bed was comfortable, the pillows plentiful, and the bath, though not luxurious, was good.

The food in the dining room was amazing. We sampled the flash fried calamari with mustard sauce (the best we've had), the Wedge salad with thick bacon bits and bleu cheese (my favorite dish), and my husband reported that the spring green salad was great, too, (huge, by the way). For entrees, we sampled the beef, veal, and pork meatballs with pappardelle pasta, the pinenut crusted king salmon, the Flat Iron Steak Diane, and a special, pork osso buco. All were great. The only negative would be the portion size of the pork, pretty scanty for the price charged. For dessert we sampled the ollaberry cobbler two nights in a row.
The breakfast was excellent, too. Ole's Swedish pancakes were lovely, the shrimp omelet generous. Saturday's came with a complementary glass of champagne.
The garden dining room is comfortable and beautiful! The service was friendly and efficient.
The front office staff was great, too. I had mentioned on the phone that we were taking this trip prior to my husband having a hip replacement, when we checked out, the clerks wished him a successful surgery!
One of the reasons I liked the Inn so much is that it was comfortable, but doesn't take itself too seriously!

Room Tip: I have only experienced the traditional oceanview rooms, so I can only comment on them. The view fr...

This was the first night of a four night drive up the pacific coast from SanFran to Newport, OR. This Inn is set up on a bluff above the Pacific ocean cove. I THINK all the room have ocean view and that is what we paid to have. We stepped out onto the balcony, sat down, drank wine, and watched the sun go down, very enjoyable. The room was plenty large with a nice bathroom that included toiletries, a wine opener and wine glasses. This Inn wants to run like an old style luxurious resort with their own high end dining room, golf, tennis, ocean trails, etc. We stayed one night for the view. It turns out that of our four night trip, three were with ocean view, and the Little River In was the expensive night so the value part of the rating is low.

Lovely hotel and for the price, the views from the rooms to the left of the entrance are to die for, fireplaces in the bottom 4 rooms are my favorite. This place has everything you need. Park your car and leave it there for your entire stay. Golf course is behind you and a spa and tennis courts are available with just a phone call. There is a restaurant and bar and great room service if you can't leave your view. The park next door offers hikes with a trail right from the hotel. The cove/beach below has a bathroom and is calm and enjoyable with lots of activity from divers and beachcombers. If you feel the need to head into town for more fun, its just a few minutes down the Hwy. Across the street is a post office, deli and store so you can stock up on extras like beer or wine, sandwiches, etc. You can't ask for more. It's a perfect get-away and you will leave wanting to come back soon. And we always do! The only thing I would say is the prices are not cheap. The food and service in the restaurant is a bit inconsistent.

Room Tip: Room 141 is great (cheapest room) and the fireplace rooms 114-117 are my favorite!

We stayed in this hotel based on a recommendation tha they were the best views in Mendocino. Definitely true - I later checked out the other top rated hotels and except for a few rooms at Mendocino Hotel none could come close. We stayed in a deluxe ocean view room. It was very spacious, with a very comfortable bed, big jacuzzi tub and a nice balcony w rocking chairs. Thw wood burning fireplace was well stocked with just right wood that made great flames but little heat. My only complaint about this place is that the sheets are of poor quality, thin and pilling, which surprises in a hotel of this price. The textiles in general (rug, armchairs) should be updated. But that's a minor thing. This is a great place, just outside of Mendocino, and I'll definitely go back.
