“Did not dissappoint..”
Reviewed July 14, 2014

Still thinking of our wonderful time at the Andiron.. Every contact we had from the booking process to checkout was handled with care and attention. Kate walked me through the room selection process and helped us plan out an unforgettable anniversary. The rooms and grounds are exactly as described- We wanted to stay in Mendocino city but were glad we chose to be a little out of town instead. The Andiron took extra care to ensure our stay was excellent, and made our dog Foxxy feel like a VIP.
Wifi across the property kept us connected (Was able to watch world cup games-whew), but we mostly tried to disconnect and relax. Absolutely no regrets, just wish we had more time to personally thank the staff before we left.

Room Tip: -Don't spend too much time figuring out which room to select- if in doubt- just call for a recom...

You guys were great guests, and that sweet Foxxy pooch of yours stole our hearts. Thanks for staying and for your kind review. We hope you'll visit again soon.

Oh! And you're totally right! Calling Kate is the very best way to choose a room - she won't steer you wrong.

In the interest of full disclosure, Mrs. Andiron is my cousin. Nevertheless, our overnight stay was everything we hoped for and more. We stayed in the two-room suite (Milly and Bill) dedicated to my aunt and uncle, Mrs. Andiron's parents, and decorated with memorabilia from their World War II-era courtship and marriage. For me, that sealed the deal right there, but the room was also very comfortable with two baths, a great shower, and the most comfortable bed I've slept on in a long time. The room also comes with a kitchenette, refrigerator, microwave, and cable television in each room. There are gas stoves for heat and free wi-fi and access to a hot tub a short walk outside. The place is pet friendly--our travel companions brought their dog and she was as welcome as the humans. Each room has a different theme and we can't wait to try them all. The location is also great--just a short drive south of Mendocino and all the attractions of the redwood forest and Pacific coast. Even if it wasn't my cousin's place, I'd highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Check out the web site and choose your room accordingly. There is a theme for every whim.

Why thank you, cousin! We knew you'd love the suite, and not just because it was about your Aunt Millie and Uncle Bill. It's pretty riveting.

Come back soon. Seriously.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Andiron Inn. We arrived late but our room information was waiting for us in the box by the lobby. The room was small but cozy with a patio outside the cabin. The owners have thought of every possible comfort. Each room has a theme. We stayed in "Write." From the old typewriter, books, chalkboard wall, paper down to the room key which was attached to a pink eraser, they didn't miss a beat. Outside there's a fire pit with a Mason jar of marshmallows and skewers. The fire is ready to start but it was too cold when we visited to use it. We did use the hot tub. It's set a couple hundred yards from the cabins in what looks like a fairy glen. The redwood trees make it feel secluded and the lighting is romantic. You have to say hello to the resident goats, Peanut Butter and Jelly. They are very friendly and always ready for a handout from the food in the vending machine. You hear very little of the noise from the highway that is close by. A very enjoyable and relaxing stay!

Hi there Pamela! Sounds to us like you did everything right at The Andiron! We do tell people the hot tub is a little bit magical, but we've never heard the environs described as a fairy glen...and we like it!

I'm sure our little beggars (those rascally goats!) loved visiting with you. They love people and treats. If they could talk, I'm sure they'd say the same as us: Come back soon!

Cabins are quiet and spacious enough with amenities that are useful for vacation travel, including games, movie rentals, books, and in our particular cabin, a telescope and binoculars. Management staff was kind and helpful, the room was clean but is not maintained everyday unless requested. Our only complaint was the specific location of our cabin (unit # 11), which is not far from Route 1, so we were able to hear the traffic as it went by. The hot tube is outdoors in a wooded area. It is on the small side and has no additional seating adjacent to the tube.

Room Tip: If your sensitive to sound ask for a cabin away from Route 1.

Thanks for your nice review! I'm sorry the highway noise bugged you - what were planners thinking putting the highway right next to the ocean where all the inns are? It does get pretty quiet at night, perfect for using that telescope to see the stars. Hope you enjoyed that. Oh! And we just hit up an estate sale and scored some nifty benches - we put one right next to the hot tub!

Hope you'll come back again soon!

The rooms here are two-room cabins built in the 1950s. The rooms are decorated from that time period. The place is well maintained and clean. Nice hot tub and a convenient location also.

Owners are there on the weekends and host a happy hour and small plates reception on Friday and Saturday evenings. They and the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and local restaurants. Would recommend the Andiron!

A simply wonderful place to spend a few days. My wife and I stayed in the 'Read' cabin, which we loved. The decorations make it feel like a little cottage and there is a little kitchen to make breakfast or what have you. Each cabin has a little deck to sit out on and have a drink. There is also a nice hot tub.

Stayed one night but should have stayed for two. Very comfortable ,quiet and friendly. The hot tub was great after a day of driving the beautiful coastal highway. We had the MAKE cabin and it was quite nice .
