“Great redwood stopover”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

We got there at about 9 pm and left the next morning at 8 am, but the owner was great, gave us maps and recs for stops along the Redwood highway. He has a bunch of friendly outdoor cats that I enjoyed, too.

5 stars...But it is "No TV, No Phone, No radio (but great internet), no pool".

And it is beautiful, peaceful, green, and did not hear one of those GD (God Damn) horn car alarm horns, while in my peaceful little room (#3).

I will take this moment selfishly to say, you SOB's who feel the need to let the universe know you have an alarm by making your alarm honk offensively can literally go to hell.

Sorry to use this forum for my rant above. we loved this motel. Soooo wonderfully wonderful. It is perfect for those looking for a mid-way stop between SF and the Oregon/California border.

Great, perfect lodging in Leggett, CA.

Jeff

We had reserved a room at Stonegate Villas on a long bike trip with knowing much about it. The road from Fortuna to Leggett was hard--steep, long and highly trafficed. We were exhausted by the time we got to hotel--ready for a shower, food and rest. We were pleased to arrive at Stonegate Villas, which is a charming set of rooms, a bit off the beaten track, on old 101 (now S Leggett dr). We met the proprietor, Mike, who not only immediately set us up with rooms. Knowing that we were beat, Mike drove us to a restaurant for dinner, took us to a grocery so that we could get food for the next day, and even drove us to the drive-thru tree. HIs wife did our laundry while we ate. I'm sure they don't provide this depth of service for everyone (esp if you have a car). But, their help made our stay (and the ride out of Leggett the next day) one of the best experiences of our trip.

Needed place to stay on our way from Manchester heading to Avenue of the Giants. Wanted to check out the drive thru tree so looked at Leggett. Was able to get a queen room for 77 (tax included) the last room available. No frills -no phones no TV's and spotty wifi (but it worked mostly) No AC but the temperature was fine and you can open windows at night and use fan. Be warned there are really no places to eat within 30 mins. Be sure to eat before or hit up the market that closes at 8pm down the road. Hotel was dated but but impeccably clean and well maintained. Nice garden area to sit out in and a few friendly cats owned by the people who run it. Owner was very welcoming- gave us good tourism advice and even brought over some bug spray while we were relaxing out back.

I didn't make reservations ahead of time--just ended up here for one night while on a road trip up Hwy 101. It's a lovely hotel--quaint and quiet. The proprietor was helpful in giving information about the nearby redwood parks and scenic drives. There was no TV, and wireless internet was spotty at best.

Stonegate Villas is an older motel that has made the effort to keep their rooms inviting. Our room was small but clean. It was pleasantly decorated, obviously benefitting from a woman's touch. This is a nice place to stay, but without the usual frills. No iron, no hair dryer, no big deal. They have just recently installed Wi-Fi. We had a small table with two chairs, an electric kettle for heating water plus coffee & tea bags. We had a very restful night's sleep.

There is a large secluded and appealing area outside for relaxing complete with tables and chairs.

We have been traveling for seven weeks now and this is was our most economical stay yet. We would stay here again.

Are you picky? Do you require modern stuff, breakfast and flat screens? Then stop reading now and look elsewhere. If you want a unique, peaceful experience with a little rustic, then you'll like it here. An old mom-n-pop motel. Small but cozy rooms, showers only, and endless peace. There's a little tribe of cats that live here that will be glad to be your friend for the price of a scratch, or you can ignore them and they'll leave you alone. Clean place.

There is NO TV HERE, but there IS basic WiFi now, and I got a tiny bit of signal on my Verizon cell, enough to make a call if I wanted to. (I didn't want to). There's magazines in the room if you're bored, but go outside, pet a cat or four, talk to your husband/wife for a change.

There is NOTHING in Leggett, so stop ahead to get anything you need for the room. Eat before 8pm as the towns before (each way) roll up the sidewalks early. The famous "Drive Thru Tree" is very close, and the Avenue of The Giants not far. (This is a good base to start from on a South-to-north run on the Ave.)

Room was clean, sleep was amazing. So nice to take a beer out to the picnic table in the nighttime, and just soak in the clean air and quiet. Mike and his wife have done a good job with the place. The ARE retiring and trying to sell the place, so check who owns it. The review may or may not still be valid with new owners.

I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms are good
