Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve
Ranked #3 of 15 things to do in Lee Vining

For someone who enjoys taking nice pictures a Must.
Especially late sfternoon and early evening is a good time but close to sunset is really overcrowded there.... Better is the night. There are as well some photo shooters but far less. Unfortunately we didn‘t find the ultimate Tufa for a Milky Way photo although it was a great experience!
Be prepared for very cold wind in the evening! Early morning is for sure interesting as well but I intended not to overstress the patience of my wife....

Very pretty lake, well worth a visit. Should also check out June lake nearby. Gorgeous views, very very pretty worn snow on the hills and very pretty tree lines! See second, 3rd and 4th pics.

We went to the visitor center in Lee Vining and there we found educational displays and films. From there we drove to South Tufa where we walked the loop trail to the lake and back from the parking lot. Beautiful views and interesting history.

If you are in the Mono Lake area take the time to visit the Tufa! There are amazing photo opportunities, just be prepared for crowds, especially at sunset!

Not much more than walking around the Tufas. Great for taking pictures at sunrise or sunset but otherwise good for about a 30minute walk.
