I stayed in the El Mono Hotel in June of '07. The property is older, and the motel-like units in the rear harken back to earlier days of auto travel. The Lee Vining location is a good choice for lodging for Yosemite travellers, as it's just outside the east entrance road to the park.
The basic rooms are small, with a wash basin in one corner, lavatory and showers are centrally located in a enclosed breezeway. Both the room and lavatory facilities are clean and serviceable. Rooms with private bath are available. Rooms have cable TV.
A small coffee shop facing the road serves excellent organic grown coffee and pastries. The staff are friendly and helpful with travel questions.
The overall feel of the El Mono Hotel is keeping with the remote high-desert character of the Lee Vining area. The hotel is a good value and it's laid-back atmosphere makes it a fun, funky place to stay.More
